Loot Alert! Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lipstick Swatches

Greetings from the head of the party, fellow rogues!

A quick report from the scouting front today, party members! No, I haven’t discovered a trap (unless you’re watching out for your wallet at the moment!), it’s something much better! Loot! The Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy lipsticks have landed on New Zealand’s shores recently, and I finally got the chance to go and do some swatching. Even though I know you’re all desperate to see how these look on my wonderfully vampiric arm, I must confess that my motives were somewhat selfish. After seeing a couple of other adventurers wear these lipsticks so beautifully (Hi Melissa! Hi Sunny! :-)), I had to go and find out if they seemed as magical on me…

Slight caveat to the photos – I took them (with the assistance of the lovely and extremely obliging Estee Lauder MUA) in the Life Pharmacy in 277, Newmarket, so the lighting is yellow/artificial, and I’d say everything is just a touch warmer than it looked to my eye. However, generally things are fine! Thus, without further ado:

The Nudes and Warm Reds – including Defiant Coral, the one that originally caught this rogue’s eye…

There are a couple I really like in this first set, including (obviously) Defiant Coral (because a rogue can never have too many fabulous coral lipsticks). I’d also be curious to see how Desirable turned out on my lips (as it kind of reminds me of my current favourite nude ), Vengeful Red is a nice, classic red, and Impassioned is (does this even work?) a ‘cool-ish’ toned orange that I’d be intrigued to see on my lips…

Second round! The cool reds, pinks and plums…

There’s also a lot to be intrigued by here! Obviously, Dominant and Tumultuous Pink are fabulous fuchsias – I kind of wish I’d had enough time/arms to swatch them next to my personal favourite fuchsia, Estee Lauder’s Fuchsia Fever (review here. Seriously, I was at the counter, and thought about the colour similarity. Why did I not just swatch them together? Honestly, Syl…). Insolent Plum is calling out to me with its purply goodness (although Venom is coughing politely in the background, reminding me that they’re probably quite similar and that I should just come back to it), but I think the colours that I’m most intrigued by here (in the sense of ones I don’t think I have much of in my – admittedly modest – hoard), are Infamous and Powerful. I do have Revlon’s Sweet Tart (review), but I just really love the glowy, medium pink colours.

A not-really-a-review: obviously, I only swatched these on my arm. But what I can say is that they have incredible colour density, a ‘pigmented-creamy’ texture, and leave an almost instant stain (not an indelible one, but you have to work to get rid of it). The scent is, as far as I can tell, the usual EL one.

So! What do you think? Have you tried any of these lipsticks? Are you interested in picking any of them up the next time you’re on a makeup quest?

Happy Looting!

Until next time, fellow rogues, don’t forget to check for loot as well as traps!

Syl

  1. They’re so prettyyyyy! Although I really struggle with the vague names they give these lipsticks. I was also drawn to the pinks you pointed out, but I know they’d look boring on my face 😦

  2. Definitely interested! I’m a lipstick novice but these little treasures are beautiful, Proper Lipsticks. Not buying anything in May though.

(I think I know which EL assistant you’re talking about; she’s SO nice.)

  3. Haiiii Syl, thanks for the shout-out! It’s amazing how different the shades look on you! As you know, I have to stay away from the more muted ones in the line-up, as they really wash me out. I think everything will work on you for sure though!

  4. Hi Syl! *waves* That is some kick-ass swatching right there! As you know I have Red Ego and I love the formula, but color-wise Defiant Coral is probably more my kind of shade. I’ve been keeping myself from buying it though, and so far so good! I wonder how long it’ll last though, lol.

    • Hehe, I wonder the same thing for myself! I keep thinking of all the ones I’d love to have – and the fact that I already know I like EL lipsticks doesn’t help… 😉

  5. Oooh, those are some gorgeous swatches. As a fellow coral lover I need defiant coral too! And powerful. And infamous. And dominant. (all the color, actually!)

    • I can’t fathom it, myself. Especially in this country, where there are occasional outbreaks of meningitis. I’m not sure exactly how long the bacteria could survive on a lipstick tester, but coldsores start to seem like the least of your worries when there’s potentially death/amputation/blindness/becoming a vegetable on offer…

I guess the spawn of hell are probably immune…or are already covered in festering sores, being the spawn of hell, and all…

  6. Creamy formula with a staining effect you say? Now I’m even more intrigued! I’d totally get the 310 Potent! Totally my kind of color. 😀 Thanks for the beautiful swatches, Syl! Are you planning to pick up a few yourself?

    • You’re very welcome! I’m glad people like the swatches, lol – I like taking them!

I totally want to pick up a couple of these, but they are sort of $59 each! I think, if I had total freedom of choice, I’d go for the orange (be brave, heh!) and one of those nice mid tone pinks… In a financially ideal world, of course! 😉

    • It’s always that ‘make it happen’ part that my wallet seems to get stuck on, hehe!

Swatching a whole collection of lipsticks is immensely satisfying, somehow. There’s a part of me that wants to do the whole Revlon lines (super lustrous, lip butters, etc), but that’s quite a daunting prospect (and drugstore testers are horrifying, usually)…

    • Aww 😦 I feel you pain. My lips are helpfully bloodless, but the skintone thing is really a sticking point. These lipsticks are really pigmented though, so at least the lip thing might not be a much of an issue?

  7. Defiant Coral is also one of my picks Syl! But we won’t be having these lipsticks in the Philippines though. What we have is the Pure Colour Envy Shine. 😦

    • …That is so weird! Especially because NZ usually gets the Asia releases too (the YSL foundation I use being a case in point). Have you swatched any of the Shine ones? What are they like?
