Greetings from back at the very start of the dungeon, fellow rogues!
First of all: A very Merry Roguemas to all of my fellow adventurers out there! Whether your quest be great or small, whether you are beset by gelatinous cubes or swimming in golden treasure, I hope you had a lovely celebration with family, friends and as few paladins as possible. I have a few pictures of my own Roguemas on Instagram, if you’re curious as to how a rogue celebrates. It involves fewer daggers than you might think… 😉
Righty ho, fellow adventurers! It’s time to begin wading into that enormous piile of miniature loot I showed you the other day. I should mention first off that a large number of the minis came in the form of the Sephora Give Me More Lip holiday special set, which contains 17 lip products in three loose ‘colour schemes’: red, nude and pink. I ordered this set from Sephora through the indomitable Jaa, who was kind enough to wrangle all the goodies into a parcel small enough that it wouldn’t cost me the contents of Erebor to ship it here. Jaa was also kind enough to take me a couple of pictures of the set before the packaging had to go…
I was rather excited when I saw what this set contained, because it was basically a laundry list of brands I’ve wanted to try for the longest time. Since there are so many products here, and because I’m a rogue and we’re funny like that, I’m going to review the contents in spearate posts (or in small groups) so that I can devote proper attention to obssessively photographing each miniature lip product with other miniature things ❤
Accordingly, today we start with one of my most anticipated items, and a popular choice for the first review from you guys – the Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in the shade Palomino! 😀
Even though it’s currently Summer here in Middle Earth, I thought I would go with a wintry theme for this post. After all, the greater percentage of my readership is currently in the grip of varying degrees of cold weather, and there’s something about the combination of bold pink, matte black and snowy white that really tickles my dagger holsters. Did you know that baking soda makes excellent snow for miniature model terrain? No? Well, now you do ^_^ .
As should be obvious from the photos (but isn’t) the lipstick is miniature. I don’t own a full size Bite lipstick to compare it to, but it’s like any miniature lipstick you’ve seen before. It is tiny and sleek and almost insufferably adorable. I didn’t have any problems with applying the lipstick (i.e. it didn’t break off), but I was very careful about application. Probably it helps that the Bite formula is quite a soft and creamy one (assisted no doubt by the 26 degree C weather we’ve had recently). Accordingly, application is very smooth and easy, although you’ll want to be careful about getting crisp edges, as the pigment-saturated formula will stain a little if you go outside the lines.
The colour in the bullet is ‘hot pink’ to me, almost a Barbie pink, but perhaps a little darker and more fuchsia. Interestingly, this mini bullet has a sort of wood-grain like pattern to it; this is almost certainly an accident of maufacture/transport/whaever, but I quite like it ^_^ The lipstick does have a scent, kind of a…fruity/herbal one? It’s very faint, and hard to place. All I know is that it’s inoffensive, and doesn’t smell like either lipstick base or vanilla, which are the usual suspects. Possibly this has something to do with (as I’ve heard) Bite Beauty’s lipsticks being made from all food-grade ingredients, and it does actually smell more ‘edible’ than your average lipstick.
I am pleased to report that this little gem from Bite totally lived up to my hopes and expectations from the brand. I heard creamy and hydrating…it was creamy and hydrating. I heard excellent pigmentation and smooth satin finish…right again on both counts! I heard good wear time and soft stain…it lasted four hours on me, and left a pretty decent fuchsia stain. What can I say, fellow adventurers? If you’re looking for a kitbag staple that will take you from snowy trek to dungeon deep to feasting table in the tavern, this is it. The colour is bold without being brash, adds a fantastic pop of colour to brighten a wintry day or glow in the summer sun, and keeps your lips happy while you wear it (well, mine didn’t complain!). If you have yet to investigate the Bite brand, maybe consider picking something up and giving it a go – especially when all these sets and things go on special in January… just sayin’… 😉
As you can see in the swatches above, the hot pink of the bullet has a deeper, berrier leaning on the lips that I absolutely love. I think it adds a touch of sophistication to what is, in real life, quite a bright colour. The finish is a beautiful smooth, plump satin. You also have some options with this colour – you can wear it full strength, blot it down for a slightly sheerer, slightly more matte (but still luminous) colour, or thin it down with lip balm for a glossier, more subtle effect. Naturally, I forgot to take a photo of that last option, but I’m sure you can figure it out. The only tip I’d mention is to make sure it’s a lip balm that itself stays put on your actual lips, as opposed to seeping outside the lines. You can be sure the pigment will go with it! Although I haven’t tried it myself yet, I rather think this might be a good candidate for a ‘lipstick you can use as a cream blush’, too…
I can believe people who say that these lipsticks die in the heat – mine was nicely creamy though still solid, but it’s one that I’d be mindful of the storage for, especially if you live in a country where things actually get *hot*! Still, if disaster strikes, that’s what either a refrigerator, or the holy trinity of lipstick repair (little pot/lipbrush/microwave) is for! 😀 I’m prepared to deal with a little potential meltiness if it means my lipstick can double as emergency dungeoneering rations, but maybe avoid taking it on that trip to the bowels of the magma cave…
What do you think, fellow adventurers? Have you tried any of Bite’s lipsticks? What’s your favourite luminous fuchsia/berry/hot pink lipstick at the moment? How’s the weather where you are? 😀
The practicalities: Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipsticks are usually 0.15 oz, and cost $24 each for the full size. Palomino is a permanent shade, and they can be acquired from www.sephora.com. The Sephora Give Me More Lip set does not, sadly, appear to still be available on the Sephora website. It was ~$60. There is, however, the Give Me Some Lip set for $25, which contains a Bite lip pencil, as well as some other goodies.
Until next time, fellow adventurers, don’t forget to check for traps!
