Interrogueation! Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award + A Fun Questionnaire for All!

Greetings from the local tavern-based adventurer’s award ceremony, fellow rogues!

Recently, the lovely Michelle over at Wonders Reviews nominated me for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award. I’m very honoured that she considers my little Bag of Holding A Rogue’s Nonsensical Ramblings (blog) worthy, and I’m happy to answer the cool questions she posed. I also think that, if you’re in need of a fix in terms of gorgeous high end makeup shinies, you should definitely check Michelle’s incredible stash out! The woman has an actual toolbox full of Tom Ford and Chanel – this is an adventurer that means business, people!

Bloggy, awardy goodness! <3 Thank you Michelle!

Bloggy, awardy goodness!

Right, so here’s how I’m going to do this, because I’m a rogue and I have no shame. 😀 Below are my answers to Michelle’s questions, and then I’ve made up ten questions of my own that I’m putting out there for everyone who wants to to take them on! If you’d like to do it as an award on your blog, go right ahead! If you’re not blogging, but would like to answer some or all in the comments, please do! I just love hearing from all of you lovely makeup adventurers out there 🙂

My Answers to Michelle’s Questions!

How did you choose the name of your blog?

Quite simple, really: as a fan of tabletop RPGS (and videogames, and miniature painting, etc) who always rolls a rogue if given the choice and has an unhealthy fondness for lipstick, ‘The Painted Rogue’ just kind of naturally followed. As a bonus, there is the rather weak pun on ‘rogue/rouge’ that I’m irrationally proud of, although I can’t be the first person who’s pointed that out 😉

Munchy toes

My first pointe shoes *sniffle*. Broke the shank by foot-power alone before I even properly munched up the platform satin!

How long have you been blogging for?.

I can hardly believe it, but I only started blogging (on a whim, actually) in late December 2013, making my quest about 9 months old! I’ve met (blogmet?) so many lovely and wonderful and smart and funny people this way, that it feels as though I’ve been blogging forever. The people who support my inane ramblings and provide me with awesome comments and amazingly fantabulous blog posts of their own to read are my absolute favourite things about blogging. They are living proof that the Internet is actually full of superlative people, which is a feeling that can quickly get lost amidst the trolls and general noise. I ❤ every single one of you, be you fellow blogger or adventurous reader! WARMFUZZIESINCOMIIIIING!

Skelemancer and the Lipstick

One of the first ever pictures in my first ever post. Aww. The Skelemancer is *really* amazed by that lipstick.

Anyway

What are your HG (holy grail) products? The ones that you purchase and repurchase?

Well, since my makeup quest really only started in earnest a year or two ago, I haven’t actually *finished* that much to repurchase! However, I can definitely give you a list of things that I would absolutely repurchase and consititute my ‘HGs’ in each category:

Foundation: YSL’s BB cream.

Concealer: Still looking, but the Collection one is impressing me at the moment, and it was only $11 😀

Eyeshadow: Tie between Urban Decay and Sleek.

Eyeliner: Urban Decay’s 24/7 liners for sure! Especially Junkie and Demolition.

Lipstick: This is kind of a hard one, as I have MANY awesome lip products. My favourite formulae are Bloom, Guerlain Rouge Automatique, Revlon Balms and Butters, Chanel Rouge Coco, and Urban Decay Revolution though.

Blush: It’s a tie between Clinique Cheek Pops and Chanel cream blushes.

Mascara: I…haven’t really found an HG yet. YSL’s is good though, and this Clinique one is nice!

Nail polish: My favourite brands are OPI (especially Rose of Light) and Chanel (especially Rose Insolent).

Despite having been sealed in a catacomb for milennia, the lipsticks were all cobweb-free and ready to go…

What’s your latest beauty/makeup splurge?

I’m not sure that a $26 total including shipping really qualifies as a ‘splurge’, but my most recent makeup purchase was an eyeshadow, a blush and a brush from Makeup Geek! They’ll be coming soon to the blog 😀

Palettes! Can anyone say ‘addiction to cool toned purply things?’

How does your DH/BF (or any male relative if you are single) react to your addiction to makeup?

Hah! 😀 The wizard has his own unhealhy addiction to miniatures, so he’d definitely be in a glass house if he decided to start throwing stones, LOL! fortunately for me, he is entirely supportive. He even gives me pedicures, carefully choosing the base colour and the appropriate glitter topcoat, and is a fan of my lipsticks, the darker and vampier the better! He’s even volunteered to be made up (partially) for a project I have on that you may or may not eventually see here on the blog…:-D

Prime Speaker Zegana full makeup look

Full on Zegana! This was way to much fun to do, actually.

What’s your makeup advice?

Wear what you want to, how you want to, and don’t take sh*t from anyone. Obviously there are going to be occasional restrictions, but getting into the mindset that you have to keep it a certain way for other people is a terrible road to go down. Embrace your creativity and have fun!

Also, own at least one teal/turquoise eyeliner. They look awesome on everyone, IMHO. Glitter is optional, but you know…UD Junkie has your back 😉

Are you organised or messy? If organised, what’s your secret?

It kind of depends. When it comes to food, makeup and laboratory work, I try to be as organised and tidy as possible, because my health and safety depends on it. Obviously, a bit of clutter builds up sometimes, but nothing is ever *dirty*. I feel a lot better after tidying things away and organising them though!

When it comes to my work desk, books, papers, journal articles etc, I am hopelessly messy and badly organised. I won’t even use EndNote, preferring to do all my references manually. SHUT UP OK? I KNOW! ;-).

Urban Decay Eyeliner Review Swatch Looks

Eyeliners! Trippy!

Which beauty products are you most disappointed by?

This is easy – mascaras and concealers! I’m always on the search for a mascara that actually impresses me, as opposed to being just ‘nice, functional etc’. When I say ‘always on the search’ I mean ‘always cadging samples to try’. When it comes to concealers, Ihave yet to find one that is really perfect for my undereye area, and pale enough for face blemishes. It’s an ongoing search, although as I mentioned the Collection one is pretty good.

Golden ANZAC biscuit eye makeup look

Does anyone ever manage to get the tops of their lashes mascara’d without clumping up the whole thing and flattening the curl?

What are your favourite colours to wear for Autumn/Fall?

PURPLE. ALL THE PURPLE. JUST PURPLE. DID I MENTION PURPLE? GOOD.

Inglot Freedon System two Pan Palette with Blue (#95) and Purple (#99) lipsticks

PURPLE LIPSTICKS OMGWTFBBQ ARRGHSQUEE! Uh, yes. Purple Lipstick. *cough*

What do you love most about makeup?

I love the colours and the artistry of it. Even if you’re beginning, and you don’t think you’re an artist with makeup, you are. You have your own style, your own preferences, ways of using things, tips tricks, the lot. Embrace your art! Also the fact that it gives me a reason to wear more glitter on my person at all times. Because sparkles, yo’. 😀

  1. What is your absolute dream job? Do you already have it? Is it: ‘Raiding dungeons with my best friends?’
My dream job would be to have a lab of my own and potter around! And while we’re at it, in said dream job I wouldn’t have to worry about grants and the whole ‘publish or perish’ mentality – I’d be tinkering around doing what I love only because I love it 🙂

Is there one makeup product that doesn’t really work well for you, but you just can’t let it go because you love it too much for other reasons?
Foundations. I never have much luck with them, but I’m too attached to them to let them go!

What was the first makeup product you ever bought for yourself?
Eyeliner. I had (and still have) a lot of different colored eyeliners, they’re such a great way to have fun with your look 🙂

What’s your number one undereye concealer?
I have a few favorites – Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, MAC Prolongwear, Maybelline Fit Me, NYX HD, and, surprisingly, the ELF HD concealer. One thing I use with ALL of them is my Bobbi Brown corrector. Nothing helps my dark circles like that does!

Do you make a hilarious face while applying eye makeup (especially tightlining)?
    Yes. Yes I do.

Can you speak or understand more than one language? How often do you use the second/third/fourth one(s)? If not, which one would you like to learn?
I know Tamil, Hindi and French. I use Tamil and Hindi quite often (I’m Indian after all!) and French when I want to muck about and make up really creative curse phrases 😛

If you could design a makeup collection, what would the items and theme be?
Hmmm… I’d have to go with bold and fearless. Lots of pigment! Even the neutral shades would be amped up in some way – duochrome eyeshadows, matte lips and blushes with the finest of sheens. It wouldn’t suit anyone who’s after the no-makeup makeup look, but it’d definitely be appropriate for a variety of situations.

How many paladins does it take to cook a proper steak?
12 – 11 of them to get the steak and Ganelon to betray them! Although, wait – since Ganelon now has the steak he’s free to properly cook it himself, so the correct answer would be 1, I assume.

If you could dance any role in any ballet (or do any role in any musical) what would it be?
I can’t sing or dance, so I’ll spare humanity the horror!

Why do Mindflayers always try to extract your brain first, and ask questions later? Hunger?
Vindictiveness? Lack of social skills? Neurokleptomania?
    I think it’s because they’re bored!

    • Oh my Gods, how amazing would it be to be able to just tinker with experiments, no publications or stress required? Ugh, that would be incredible!

      Coloured eyeliners ftw! *high fives*

I totally want to try the Laura Mercier Secret camouflage. I was going to get some in Dubai, but the tester at the counter I was at was kinda… blech. Also, I’m not 100% sure the lightest one is light enough!

How different are Tamil and Hindi? *complete ignorance on this point* 😛 LOL for using French to swear creatively! German’s a great language to be angry in, I have to say…

I love the idea of amped up neutrals! Heh, perhaps I’m just on a bit of ‘no makeup’ overload: I was almost offended that so much of the Vice 3 palette is ‘neutrals’, despite how useful they are and how pretty some of them (notably Angel) are! 😛

      ROFL @ your paladin-Ganelon-steak scenario! 😀

  2. What is your absolute dream job? Do you already have it? Is it: ‘Raiding dungeons with my best friends?’

Children’s book writer. No, I don’t have that job…yet. Someday. Right now I’m too overwhelmed with my actual (special needs) children. Being “Mom” as a job has its perks, though!

Is there one makeup product that doesn’t really work well for you, but you just can’t let it go because you love it too much for other reasons? No, I either throw it out or give it away if it doesn’t work for me.

What was the first makeup product you ever bought for yourself? A brown Covergirl eyeliner pencil with a smudger tip on one end. I think I was 14.

What’s your number one undereye concealer? E.l.f.’s in Brightening. But I haven’t tried any others, as I don’t use it often.

Do you make a hilarious face while applying eye makeup (especially tightlining)? Sometimes

Can you speak or understand more than one language? How often do you use the second/third/fourth one(s)? If not, which one would you like to learn? I took a year of German in high school and two years in university. I can speak and understand basic stuff still. I can still read it really well. I have some books and a German dictionary loaded in my Kindle to help me brush up.

If you could design a makeup collection, what would the items and theme be? My collection would specialize in fair skin, from Albino up through Light. Everything would be suitable for sensitive skin and eyes. I’d have a huge range of foundations, and lighter colored contouring items and bronzers. I’d carry all kinds of colors. I would have lots of bright blushes that would go on sheerly enough to look good, and all the standard colors (pink, rose, brown, peach, etc.) in light shades. And tons of colorful, duochrome, glittery and all that fun stuff eye shadows.

How many paladins does it take to cook a proper steak? They don’t eat steak. They go straight for the pies.

If you could dance any role in any ballet (or do any role in any musical) what would it be? Velma in Chicago.

Why do Mindflayers always try to extract your brain first, and ask questions later? Hunger? Vindictiveness? Lack of social skills? Neurokleptomania?

They’re trying to get the brains before the zombies do?

  3. What is your absolute dream job? Do you already have it? Is it: ‘Raiding dungeons with my best friends?’

Being a full-time model terrain maker that produces the most exquisite pieces for collectors and gamers and also having my own museum dedicated to scale miniatures with lavish dioramas.

Can you speak or understand more than one language? How often do you use the second/third/fourth one(s)? If not, which one would you like to learn?

Apart from English and German (both used regularly) I would very much like to refresh my Spanish and Russian. While we are at it French and italian would also come in handy. 😉

If you could design a makeup collection, what would the items and theme be?

The theme would either be Fantasy or Hannibal Barcas. I could see a wonderful collections of eyeshadows and lipsticks called “Cannae”, “Zama”, “Hasdrubal” or a nice purple “Mindflayer” a glorious blackish purple “Drizzt”….

How many paladins does it take to cook a proper steak?

Again, if dwarves are around at least two: One to keep the dwarf at bay and the other to cook the steak.

If you could dance any role in any ballet (or do any role in any musical) what would it be?

Obviously the lead role in the Hannibal Barcas ballett. I would also go for Scipio Africanus. 😉

Why do Mindflayers always try to extract your brain first, and ask questions later? Hunger? Vindictiveness? Lack of social skills? Neurokleptomania?

    Pure vindictiveness. Nuff said.

    • I think you’ll make a fabulous full-time model terrain maker 😉 After all, your stuff makes my blog what it is… 😀

Oo, I wouldn’t mid brushing up my Italian either, actually – would be so useful for my future career! #fingerscrossed

I need you to go and make those makeup collections happen, like, yesterday. What colour would the Hannibal eyeshadow be? There has to be at least one elephant grey…

ROFL, now I have the image of one paladin with his hand on the dwarf’s helmet as the dwarf’s arms windmill, while the other paladin cooks the steak. The first paladin hasn’t realised how close the fists are getting to his groin, though…

OK, I need to see the choreography for that Hannibal ballet too. Can I be Scipio to your Hannibal, and we can do the ‘Zama Pas De Deux’ …

  4. What is your absolute dream job? Do you already have it? Is it: ‘Raiding dungeons with my best friends?’
I’m not sure what is my dream job (I’m 20) but right now I’d really love to become a makeup artist, in fact I’m debating between starting or not in makeup artistry even if it’s for free just to gain experience.

Is there one makeup product that doesn’t really work well for you, but you just can’t let it go because you love it too much for other reasons?
I think it could be primers, my skin can’t stand silicones so if I use them more than two days in a row I’ll end up with more acne. However the look of skin after primer and longer wearing make me use it for special occasions (even though I don’t have any these days).

What was the first makeup product you ever bought for yourself?
A Maybelline foundation that wasn’t my shade (I’m really yellow and many drugstores foundations are pink-based).

What’s your number one undereye concealer?
I haven’t found it, but I want to buy Josie Maran’s crayon; I tried it on and it’s soft with decent coverage.

Do you make a hilarious face while applying eye makeup (especially tightlining)?
I think I put my face like “Yes, I’m always glamorous”

Can you speak or understand more than one language? How often do you use the second/third/fourth one(s)? If not, which one would you like to learn?
I’m Mexican so my mother language is Spanish and since I live here I use it everyday; I’ve studied English since I was 5 (I’m going to make my certification exam this week) and due to globalization I think I use it everyday too; finally I’ve studied French for a year so I can survive in France (I think I use it 2-3 times a week).

If you could design a makeup collection, what would the items and theme be?
Base products, I have the idea that having a polished (not even flawless) face makes all the difference when using makeup.

How many paladins does it take to cook a proper steak?
I’m sure they don’t cook it, they’ll ask one of their servers to do it.

If you could dance any role in any ballet (or do any role in any musical) what would it be?
I really don’t know because I haven’t seen many ballets or musicals. Maybe Elphaba from Wicked or one of the guys of Hoy no me puedo levantar.

Why do Mindflayers always try to extract your brain first, and ask questions later? Hunger? Vindictiveness? Lack of social skills? Neurokleptomania?

    • I say go for it! If you have a reasonable stash of makeup, you could totally get practice and a varied portfolio together just doing looks on yourself, or maybe family and friends? 😀 Exciting!

Say, have you tried that trick that Wayne Goss was going on about where you put your powder under your foundation? I hear it makes the finish nicer? (I haven’t tried it though, as I usually use powder foundation or BB cream by itself).

Ooh, Spanish! I can’t speak any myself yet (sadly), but the Wizard can do a reasonable amount from the time he spent in South America. Good luck with your certification – I know you’ll ace it! 🙂

You make a good point about the paladins. Lazy folk, those paladins 😉

I looked up Hoy no me puedo levantar – it sounds like a really interesting musical! I was only reading the story synopsis, and still got really involved, LOL! If you like unsolicited recommendations (sorry :-P) then Gilbert and Sullivan musicals are quirkily funny (if a product of their time), and you can Youtube any ballet with Marianela Nunez in it, and wonder will follow! 😀

  5. What is your absolute dream job? Do you already have it? Is it: ‘Raiding dungeons with my best friends?’
Well now that you mention it, raiding dungeons does sound pretty sweet….. And I am a treasure hunter of sorts already. I work in a museum and I buy/sell/repair antiques. My dream job would probably involve stacks of thick paper, jars of smelly ink, and an old printing press. Or maybe that’s just the hobby I can’t let go of. I’d also love to work in archives. We’ve got our own at the museum and I love to potter around in there. Paper and ink + age is still paper and ink though. Damn they get me every time.

Is there one makeup product that doesn’t really work well for you, but you just can’t let it go because you love it too much for other reasons?
I try not to be sentimental about my makeup but I do have trouble parting with a nonstarter if I paid a lot for it. I’m somehow determined that I can make it work. Occasionally I do work it out, but a lot of the time they still end up in the dustbin.

What was the first makeup product you ever bought for yourself?
A bottle of Wet n Wild nail varnish. Super-smelly early 90s formula nail varnish, at that.

What’s your number one undereye concealer?
I’ve yet to find an actual concealer that will cover my monster dark circles and not settle into fine lines, but I’ve been having the strangest luck with a couple layers of Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide foundation set with MUFE HD pressed powder.

Do you make a hilarious face while applying eye makeup (especially tightlining)?
I’ve pretty much trained myself to avoid making the “mascara face” hahaha. I don’t tightline. In fact I’m pretty spare with eye makeup. Too many sensitivities.

Can you speak or understand more than one language? How often do you use the second/third/fourth one(s)? If not, which one would you like to learn?
I can read French in a passable way but am rubbish when trying to converse. Yep, I’m much better on paper. 😛

If you could design a makeup collection, what would the items and theme be?
Lipstick, blush, and nail lacquer. And what do you mean theme? There has to be a theme?!?! I rarely wear colours revolving around a theme (oh so rebellious, lol) but I guess I could do the packaging. Deco. Definitely Art Deco. I do love me some Deco compacts and lipstick cases!

How many paladins does it take to cook a proper steak?
    Wait, they can cook???

If you could dance any role in any ballet (or do any role in any musical) what would it be?
If I had actual talent I’d want to be in Chicago. But I don’t. Maybe they’ll let me be an extra in “Cannibal! The Musical” instead. Then nobody has to hear me sing. Though I do know the snowman song by heart.

Why do Mindflayers always try to extract your brain first, and ask questions later? Hunger? Vindictiveness? Lack of social skills? Neurokleptomania?
Vindictiveness with a side of klepto, maybe? Though that behaviour in general does show a distinct lack of social grace.

    • OH MY GOD YOUR DREAM JOB IS MY DREAM JOB well, close enough, LOL! I’m trying to work my way into conservation science, but museums are a huge love of mine! *high fives* 😀

I know how you feel re: hard to give up on expensive duds. In Middle Earth, of course, pretty much any dud was an expensive dud, so the chances of it happening are that much greater…

Mmm… smelly ‘9s polish! I think my sister and I still have a few bottles of Hard Candy (?) polish from that period rolling around my parents’ bathroom… what was the shade? 😀

Aww, sorry you have eye sensitivities 😦 With my eczema, I keep expecting to encounter some myself, but my eyes seem curiously stable. Except when it comes to this one Clinique makeup remover sample I got. That stuff burns like the fires of Hades…

Haha, nope, there doesn’t have to be a theme. I’m loving the sound of that Deco packaging though… every time I see Besame stuff I get grabby hands – I think there needs to be more of that stuff out there!

Paladins have been know to cook. Probably because everyone else was waiting for a rez and there was no-one to do it for them 😉

  8. Love reading your answers ! This is sooooo fun ! Thank you Syl to answer my questions ! 😀

Omg I had the feeling that you were blogging longer, cause I followed your reviews (feel like it was longtime) before to create my own blog. One of the 1st review i read from you was about a wedding makeup, and you were showing my favourite blush at that time : the Affinité from Chanel. 😀

You definitely should give the Dior lash Maximizer and the it-lash mascara a try. They are my HGs now. The Maximizer hold the curls so well that i dont need lash curler anymore, i can add mascara from the top gently without to lost the curls !

Love Rose Insolent too ! It was my 1st Chanel nail polishe ! It’s also my 1st hot pink. I wasn’t that into makeup before. Now I’m addicted. XD

Cant wait to see your thoughts about the palettes !

Omg ! Pédicure by DH ! Lucky girl !!!
You 2 have gorgeous green eyes !

Great makeup advise ! Totaly agree with you !

You are lucky to be able to wear purple lipsticks ! My skin tone is too warm for that. Butter London has a gorgeous sparkling amethst purple polish, just got it, i’m sure you’ll love it too ! 😀

Friends are welcome to raid in Sephora with me. 😉

    2. Chanel Le Blanc. I dont really need it, i’m too lazy to mix foundations. I bought it in an impulsion then regreted. But i’m keeping it in case i need to lighten a foundation. There are so much product in the jar, feel like i’ll never finish it !

    3. A burgundy lipstick. I wasn’t allowed to wear it. XD

    4. I like to use the HR concealer. It has a great coverance and very light weight and dont goes into finelines. (Review : HERE)

    5. Oh yeah ! And i’d like to not do that cause this makes the fine lines to become wrinkles. XD

    6. We speak french here. My mother language is chinese. I learned my english at school. I’d like to use chinese in my reviews but with already french and english, each post is enought long. It would be too long and take too much time to write it in 3 languages.

    7. I’m in love with holographic polishes now. But really not easy to find. Peggy Sage has 5 shades but the base tone is not enought bold. So in a Wonderland were i can do that, i’ll make a collection of holographic and fairy makeups, with a huge choice of holographic nail polishes, eye shadows, eye liners, lipsticks and highlighters.

    • Thank you so much for nominating me, Michelle! I had a lot of fun 🙂

Are you a fellow Affinite fan? 😀 Hooray! It’s such a lovely colour from such a lovely formula ❤

Ooh, thanks for the tip about the Lash Maximiser! I have a little sample tube somewhere…I must go see if it's still good and try it out!

LOL, I would love to come on a Sephora raid with you! Imagine the damage we'd do! 😛

Does Le Blanc de Chanel really work for lightening foundations? My sister has some, so I was considering borrowing a bit to see if I can finally get a foundation light enough for my neck, but I thought it was only an illuminator…

Hehe, I would be *so* impressed if you added a third language to your blog! I'm considering adding German to mine, and that stresses me out enough, LOL! Maybe when my PhD is finished and I have more time 😀

Eep! I totally want to get into holo polishes! You should make your collection – I'll be your first customer, and showcase you on the blog, LOL! 😀

The swan is such a cool role, because you get to be two different people and wear two different costumes! 😀 I think I look like an elephant in a tutu, LOL, but they are fun to wear ^_^

  9. Your post made me smile so much 🙂 Can we please be friends now? I can’t believe you’ve only been blogging for 9 months! I love your blog!
“Wear what you want to, how you want to, and don’t take sh*t from anyone.” <–Truth!

    Alright, the questions:

    1. What is your absolute dream job? Do you already have it? Is it: ‘Raiding dungeons with my best friends?’
I would love to be a published writer. Do I have it? Well… Does blogging qualify? I'm a self-published internet writer! LOL baby steps, right?

    2. Is there one makeup product that doesn’t really work well for you, but you just can’t let it go because you love it too much for other reasons?
Hmm… I have a flat foundation brush from Chanel (it was my first "big girl" brush and it cost a ridiculous amount of money), that I NEVER use anymore because I prefer using a buffing brush for my foundation. I could never get rid of it though—I've had it since my sophomore year of college and it's a gorgeous looking thing.

    3. What was the first makeup product you ever bought for yourself?
It was a loose powder from an Asian brand I don't remember the name of. I know, random.

    4. What’s your number one undereye concealer?
So, I've just discovered Bye Bye Under Eye by It Cosmetics and it's the bomb.com

    5. Do you make a hilarious face while applying eye makeup (especially tightlining)?
I look very serious/focused. My friends and family point that out all the time.
    Resting…makeup bitch face?

6.Can you speak or understand more than one language? How often do you use the second/third/fourth one(s)? If not, which one would you like to learn?
Yes! I was born in Kiev, Ukraine, so I speak Ukrainian and Russian. I still use both of them when I talk to my family and a few friends. I have also learned French, Italian, and Polish. I'm not fluent in those, but I can read and understand quite a bit.

    7. If you could design a makeup collection, what would the items and theme be?
Definitely fantasy themed, elves and dragons. But on the dark side. Warlock elf makeup? Yup. Lip products and a few eyeshadow palettes.

    8. How many paladins does it take to cook a proper steak?
Well, that depends… What is their cooking skill at?

    9. If you could dance any role in any ballet (or do any role in any musical) what would it be?
If I'm sticking with my gender, I would say Elphaba in Wicked. If I can be a dude – The Phantom from Phantom of the Opera.

    10. Why do Mindflayers always try to extract your brain first, and ask questions later? Hunger? Vindictiveness? Lack of social skills? Neurokleptomania?
As a warlock, I would say it's a logical order of things. They obviously need to absorb some intel. Would you answer a Mindflayer's questions willingly? I think not 😉

    • Aww! *warm fuzzies!* We’re friends already, Marianna!

Blogging totally counts, LOL! I have a coupl of ‘publications’ out there, but they’re in science journals and are super boring 😛 YOu should go for it! 😀

The nice thing about brushes (I assume, since I don’t really have many, LOL!) is that they don’t ‘go off’ so you can legitimately just leave it on your vanity to look expensive and beautiful 😀 Plus, face brushes are nice to fondle… >_> …. <__< *envy* The Phantom is an excellent choice – so much more interesting than Christine!

No, no I probably wouldn't answer a Mindlfayer's questions. LOL, now I have an image of a Michael Parkinson type show, but with a Mindflayer instead of Parky. 😀

      • Aww, yay 🙂 I made a friend!

You’re right about brushes. Funny thing, I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality of this one: I knew nothing about proper brush care when I got it, and the things I’ve done to this brush… Pretty much everything I shouldn’t have—washed with with hand soap, left it standing up when it’s wet, washed it with hot water… And it hasn’t shed a single hair! Now THAT’S quality. Bravo, Chanel!

Bwahaha! There needs to be a Mindflayer show. NEEDS to be!

    • LOL, one day it was just like:

Wizard: ‘Do you want me to paint your toes?’

      Me: *stares*

Wizard: ‘I think that bright pink polish I got you (Chanel Tentation) would look good’

      Me: *stares*

Wizard: *rummages through polish stash* ‘I could put this glitter on top? *holds up OPI Pirouette My Whistle*

Me: *has already thrust feet in his direction*

      😀

He always likes to choose a bright colour, then a glitter to go on top, bless him. He truly is a wizard after my own heart.

I’m glad you enjoyed the post! I love reading these too (as you day, lipstick shades are diagnostic, but, you know… 😉 )

  11. 1. What is your absolute dream job? Do you already have it? Is it: ‘Raiding dungeons with my best friends?’

I have no idea…so I suspect I don’t have it 🙂 Can I try about a hundred things and get back to you later?

The big problem with raiding dungeons? No toilets. I can handle the spiderweb and guts in the hair, the constant weapon-maintenance-nervous-twitch fighters develop, the lack of bathing facilities, and even the rock-crushing snoring of the dwarf…but I draw the line at toilets.

    2. Is there one makeup product that doesn’t really work well for you, but you just can’t let it go because you love it too much for other reasons?

I’m pretty good about giving up on products when they betray me 🙂

    3. What was the first makeup product you ever bought for yourself?

    probably nail polish

    4. What’s your number one undereye concealer?

right now I’m using the palest shade in Too Faced’s Boudoir palette – it’s not perfect, but it helps and it’s easy 🙂 I’m also very fond of Maybelline’s Dream Lumi highlighting concealer in Radiant.

    5. Do you make a hilarious face while applying eye makeup (especially tightlining)?

oh my sweet heavens yes 🙂

    6. Can you speak or understand more than one language? How often do you use the second/third/fourth one(s)? If not, which one would you like to learn?

    do programming languages count? 🙂

Other than English, I use a bit of French for work (amusingly, my listening comprehension always gets better during the Summer Olympics because the francophone channels have better equestrian coverage 🙂 ), and know a tiny bit of Japanese (I probably remember enough to either be minimally polite or terribly offensive :/ ), about 8 words of Portugese, and 2 of Klingon.

I’d like to learn…all of them 🙂 I currently have books on learning Latin, Irish, and Hawaiian….

    7. If you could design a makeup collection, what would the items and theme be?

    I can’t decide :/

    8. How many paladins does it take to cook a proper steak?

Paladins have servants for that sort of thing – they’re far too busy defending the faith to waste their time on that sort of nonsense!

    They expect seconds though.

(I’m quite curious as to what an improper steak looks like…. 😀 )

    9. If you could dance any role in any ballet (or do any role in any musical) what would it be?

I’ve been fairly fascinated by Giselle for ages.

I would love to play the Pirate King from Penzance. It would require binding and transposing, but would be worth every moment 🙂

Or the lead in a Bollywood film. Or one of the interesting roles in Cats. Maybe one of those fun active roles in the Nutcracker.

…this is sort of leading to an ‘everything’ answer again 😀 well, everything except roles consisting of flaily contemporary.

    10. Why do Mindflayers always try to extract your brain first, and ask questions later? Hunger? Vindictiveness? Lack of social skills? Neurokleptomania?

Once they’ve got your brain they’ve got the answers! If they were to ask questions using words you could lie (I’d say what they wanted to hear!), but if they slurp up your brain it’s all right there just waiting to be read and digested….

(I suspect they’d say non-Mindflayers lack social skills in that we don’t offer up our brains upon meeting them)

    • Yeah, the whole toilet situation in dungeons is a big issue for me too. Add in the traditional rogue outfits with all those straps and the tight leather that either forces you to have an unflattering buttflap or get half undressed to go, and the whole adventuring-bathroom situation gets really awkward, really fast. Mind you, I don’t envy the mages their robes or the warriors their armor in that situation either, so..

LOL, programming languages totally count! Your description of Japanese is my ability level in Python. 😀

Giselle is an awesome ballet, with some seriously awesome solos. I’ve only done bits and pieces myself (a couple of years ago,. probably terribly), but I had a lot of fun! I love me some Gilbert and Sullivan, though, because, well, I am the very model of a modern…rogue. 😛 Being the Pirate King sounds pretty awesome to me!

P.S. ‘Flaily contemporary’ cracked me up. Although I have tried and enjoyed the occasional bit of contemporary, I definitely prefer any flailing I do to be of the more academic, ballet kind.

      *flails academically*

      • hang with the forest-roving types – monsters, treasure, AND we’ve got the facilities sussed 😉 (I’ve always hoped that wizards have calf-length robes, because those floor-length ones in a dungeon? *shudder*)

LOL! that’s about my level in Python too 🙂 throw javascript, Delphi, and SQL into the ‘use everyday’ category and the others into the ‘with a decent dictionary and a good grammar I can muddle through the written word’ one 🙂

I’m actually very sure you did Giselle really well! It sounds like you really take it seriously, and if you put as much effort and creativity into ballet as the blog…ya, it was good 🙂

Gilbert & Sullivan are the _best_ 😀

hee! but you know exactly the kind of contemporary that is, right?! I credit SYTYCD with making me realize there are other kinds, but that particular type…yikes.

(trying to picture ballet flailing….it sounds very graceful 🙂 )

        Like

      • You know, funny story: some of the worst flaily stuff I ever saw, and what I reference in my head for that stereotype, came from a very early season of SYTYCD ;-P I haven’t actually seen anything since about the first or second season, though, so I can’t really comment on anything current! I am, however, entirely open to interesting choreographies from all sorts of different styles, so thanks for the links! 😀 Ballet flailing is *supposed* to be graceful. Emphasis very much on ‘supposed’ 😉

(And no, you don’t even want to know what the drycleaning bill is like for Wizards who forget to cast that dirt repelling spell or don’t know the cleaning one *casts hard look at wizard husband* :-P)

  12. 1. What is your absolute dream job? Do you already have it? Is it: ‘Raiding dungeons with my best friends?’

Editing science fiction, RPGs, tech articles, and academic works on history and religion, which is essentially what I do! Nothing like making a living reading Star Wars scenarios all day 🙂

    2. Is there one makeup product that doesn’t really work well for you, but you just can’t let it go because you love it too much for other reasons?

My cooler Rouge Bunny Rouge shadows–I can’t figure out how to get blues/teals/cool greens/cool greys to work for me. But they are so pretty! 😦

    3. What was the first makeup product you ever bought for yourself?

Oh dear, I am far too old to remember. In the last few years when I finally branched out from the same Clinique products I’d been wearing for almost two decades, I first purchased Guerlain Lingerie de Peau foundation; the UD Naked 2 palette; Rouge Bunny Rouge Florita blush, Murmerings lipstick, and Delicate Hummingbird and Tantalizing Lovebird shadows; Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara; and a Pixi eyeliner set.

    4. What’s your number one undereye concealer?

    Lancome Maquicomplet in light buff

    5. Do you make a hilarious face while applying eye makeup (especially tightlining)?

No idea–I’m far too close to the mirror to see my whole face!

    6. Can you speak or understand more than one language? How often do you use the second/third/fourth one(s)? If not, which one would you like to learn?

I used to be quite good at biblical Hebrew and mediocre at German, and I had a smidgen of Greek. I don’t use any of them any more. I’d love to learn Ugaritic and Akkadian and improve considerably in Greek. Which I will not be doing in my un-copious spare time!

    7. If you could design a makeup collection, what would the items and theme be?

    Fall theme
    – Lipsticks: Plum, red, muted plum, and rose — all quite hydrating
    – Shadows:
    – Complex shimmering plum, rich gold, and very pale ivory-gold; matte pale pinky-beige, plummy taupe, dark plum
    – Complex shimmering copper, warm bronze (not green-leaning), and ivory; matte ivory, light brown, chocolate brown
    – Blush: Palette with plum and neutral blushes, bronzer, highlighter, texture like RBR blushes
    – Eyeliners: Complex shimmering taupes–one leaning plum, one leaning more brown; complex shimmering plum and brown; pinky-white for waterline; liquid very dark plum and very dark chocolate brown
    – The perfect medium coverage hydrating glowy foundation with extensive range of shades
    – A combo finishing and setting powder that does not irritate my eyes!

    8. How many paladins does it take to cook a proper steak?

One, to tell her squire to have her staff cook it up.

    9. If you could dance any role in any ballet (or do any role in any musical) what would it be?

I’d love to be able to do Irish dance like my daughter–so something in the way of a good musical that includes Irish dance and Irish songs.

    10. Why do Mindflayers always try to extract your brain first, and ask questions later? Hunger? Vindictiveness? Lack of social skills? Neurokleptomania?

Mooooreeee knowledgggggeeeeee? I dunno, they might be too busy googling things to bother extracting brains any more.

    • Your comment is so full of awesome, it’s hard for me to respond to all of it without writing a novel, but can I just mention how awesome your editing job sounds? 😀

Isn’t it funny how when you start out in makeup it’s really easy to get stuck in one brand, and use it to the exclusion of all else? I technically had that with Lancome (not two decades worth, perhaps, but I definitely experienced the same situation!). There’s nothing wrong with it, but there are so many other exciting and shiny things to find…

Man, I totally need to get my hands on some of these RBR shadows. Seriously. I see the awesomeness everywhere!

High fives for the ancient languages! I want to learn more myself, since I only have Egyptian hieroglyphs and the barest scratchings of Coptic to my name. Akkadian would be so cool!! 😀

Oooh, Irish dance! Bouncy! I’m always so impressed by the stamina those girls have – jumping, even small ones, is my weakest area of ballet, LOL. Can you start Irish dance as an adult where you are? Maybe your daughter can give you some lessons 😉

      • Thanks! The job’s hardly lucrative, but I still feel mind-bogglingly lucky. It’s freelance, too (but I get steady work), so I can work in my jammies on my couch if I want to, and it’s easy to switch to my afternoon job as chauffeur for my daughters 😀 .

Wow, wow, WOW re: hieroglyphics and Coptic!!!!! You are now at the top of my “extremely cool people” pedestal! Yeah, if I’d stayed in grad school I’d know Akkadian, Ugaritic, Aramaic, more biblical Hebrew, ancient Greek, French, German, and tiny bit of Latin. I’d likely have gone for Ethiopic, too, and I’d be jonesing for Sumerian, hieroglyphics, and Coptic but I’m sure that’d be over my limit 😀 . I did quite well but ended up deciding the academic lifestyle in that field (ancient Near Eastern religions) wasn’t really what I wanted after all. Absolutely fantastic experience, though!

RBR has a palette out now–it’s a little on the cool side for me looks like a way to get more of their shadows without it being quite so expensive. Beautyhabit has their stuff, and if you have a Z-Palette, a lot of their best shades can be purchased in pan form for a lot less than the singles in a case.

Absolutely with the one-brand thing! I wasn’t much of a makeup person until fairly recently, when my obsessive brain latched on to the pretties 😀 . Even now, though I do have things from a number of other brands, too, I lean pretty heavily toward RBR: lots of shadows, 2 blushes, 3 lipsticks, a gloss and a mascara, and a primer, and I just ordered foundation since I think my regular foundation is starting to make my eyes itch 😦 RBR does need a rich plum shadow like the one in the Tarte palette though! (You may have noticed I am a tad partial to that shade…)

Irish dance–hmm, I think the bouncy would require me to wear a custom platemail sportsbra 😀 . My daughter’s legs are like iron with all the jumping, though–wow. Ballet does that too, of course!

        Like

      • *sits smugly on pedestal* 😉 LOL! I was so desperate to study Hieroglyphs – I’ve been obsessed with Egyptian history since before I can remember, so an Egyptology degree was a must! I would have loved to do Akkadian/Sumerian more Near Eastern stuff though. I wrote a whole paper on the Amarna Letters, and it really opened my eyes to the interplay between Egypt and other cultures, which I’d missed a little because I’m not really a military historian (which is how you usually hear of relationships between ancient cultures!)

STOP TEMPTING ME WITH THE RBR, YOU ENABLER YOU. 😛 Hehe, the plum shade is pretty awesome 😉

Funny thing – part of the reason I’m not really much of a jumper in ballet is because, thanks to starting as an adult + genetics (?) I have what I believe in US sizing is a 32DD. Leotards do keep things in check to a certain point, but they’re not really designed to deal with what I have, LOL! For this reason, I like to consider myself more of a ‘balance with one leg in the air’ specialist, rather than a ‘jumper’ or a ‘turner’. I’m getting more into it though, as I master the whole jump-jump transition better. Speaking of iron, I thought when I started that ballet might help me to stay a little more toned. What it gave me, after three years or so, was an actual (if ladylike) sixpack. (this inspired my husband to start doing ballet too, LOL!)
