Loot Alert! New Rouge Dior Baume Lipstick Swatches!

Greetings from the head of the party, fellow rogues!

A quick report from the scouting front today, party members! No, I haven’t discovered a trap (unless you’re watching out for your wallet at the moment!), it’s something much better! Loot! The new Rouge Dior Baume line has arrived on New Zealand’s shores (and everywhere else I expect), and your best rogue friend Syl has all the swatches for you! Obviously, these apply best if you are a) a vampire and b) in New Zealand, as these are the particular shades we got here. The Dior International website lists something like 19 shades total, of which we got the selection swatched here.

The line is supposed to be a lightweight, hydrating balm-like lipstick with ‘couture colour’, whatever that means. They do have actual pigment though, so the colour part is definitely right!

New Rouge Dior Baume swatches

The New Rouge Dior Baume lipstick! Image sourced from Dior’s international website.

If you’d like a review of the formula, Sunny has you covered here (and the new Dior lipliner, too) 😀

Slight caveat to the photos – I took them in a department store, with the SA looking at me as though I was about to do something deviant with the testers >:-( . As a result, I had to flee without getting the exact names, but I have put together what I do know (I ordered them numerically in the display before swatching). There is one mystery swatch, right next to Star – I think I might have double swatched something though, so kindly ignore that one!

Thus, without further ado…the swatches! Please click on a picture to make it larger 🙂

Rouge Dior Baume lipsticks all swatches NZ warm artificial light

Indoor, warm store lighting. This picture gives a good indication of the glossiness, and the amount/distribution of the pigment.

Rouge Dior Baume lipsticks all swatches NZ Cold Light

Swatches outside in cold, later Winter evening light. They look much more matte in this picture, interestingly, but be assured that they are of the sheer/glossy type.

My personal favourite of these would actually have to be Sweetheart – it’s just such a vibrant, glowing warm red that I had to smile when I swatched it! It reminds me a little of Wild Watermelon, though, so if you like the look of it too and are sparing your gold purse, maybe take a look at the Revlon Colorburst Lip butter line – I have a feeling there’ll be a few dupes there!

There are a surprisingly large number of pale, apricot colours in this Dior range, although I am informed that this is because apricot is going to be big this Spring/Summer  – perhaps this is where the ‘couture’ part comes in? ;-). Sadly, the pale apricots aren’t really for me, but there are plenty of other pretty shades in this line. If you’re a fan of apricot though, you’re going to want to take a look! 😀

A note on the texture/pigment (from my perspective). I actually got to swatch almost all-new testers (I think only one had even been touched!) so the initial pass was a bit stiff, but it warmed up and became more balmy and slick on the second pass. I have a feeling that some of the darker/brighter shades (including Sweetheart) might suffer from uneven pigment distribution if you aren’t careful when applying, or if you have flaky bits on your lips. This is only a supposition based on how the pigment applied/looked on my arm, though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I like the concept of this new line, as I am a fan of sheer-but-can-be-built, glossy lipsticks, and balm-y things in general. 🙂

So! What do you think? Have you tried any of these lipsticks? Are you interested in picking any of them up the next time you’re on a makeup quest?

Happy Looting!

Until next time, fellow rogues, don’t forget to check for loot as well as traps!

Syl

    • They are really cute – I spotted them as soon as I walked past the counter! There are actually a bunch of blushes and polishes with this release as well – I would have swatched more extensively, but that SA was really offputting 😦

  1. Apricot for the next season? Errr…. nah… not for me. Does that mean I’ll be saving a lot of $$$ since Apricot is really not my color? 😀 😀 😀

Shouldn’t the SA be accustomed to people swatching the colors on their arm already? I mean, they should know that half the girls who buy makeup are now beauty bloggers haha.

My favorite is Rose Rose. ^_^

    • Saving money…until Tom Ford makes an apricot coral themed eyeshadow quad, right? 😉 Apricot depends for me. It’s OK as a blush, and if the lipstick is sheer it’s fine, but if there’s a white base to the colour than it’s a no-go, sadly…

This particular SA is kind of strange. She actually said that she’d never seen anyone do what I was doing before. It kind of makes me sad that a ‘MUA’ at a makeup counter doesn’t even know beauty blogs *exist*, and that what I’m basically doing is giving her employer free advertising. She was so suspicious, LOL!

      • Oh yeah ! I was waiting to see what would replace the beloved Rouge sérum and here they are, the Rouge Dior Balm, pretty lovely colors !
But i prefer the packaging of Rouge sérum, more original with the cannage, long and élégant, dont look like traditional lipstick.
Rouge Dior Balm’s packaging looks like Chanel’s Rouge Coco Shine.
But anyway, the colors and the formula are more important, so i’m happy with the Balms. 😀

    • Hehe, I thought of you when I saw these! 😀 Part of me was so tempted to do the swatches because all the testers were brand new – its just so satisfying to get there first, you know? Like when you open a new jar of Vegemite or Nutella and you disturb the perfectly smooth surface in the name of delicious toast…

  4. Hey Syl, thanks for the swatches and shout-out! I need to pick up another shade at some point, because I think Spring is on the less pigmented side of the spectrum. I’m thinking Diorette 🙂

    • You’re welcome, Sunny! ^_^ Diorette is really pretty too – I was actually impressed by the pigmentation of some of these! The only thing that kind of disappointed me was that even on my vampire arm, there were several colours that looked very similar. We’re definitely in the #firstworldproblems zone with that complaint, but if you’re going to release 15+ lipsticks…. 😛

    • I think you would too! There are some excellent ‘Melissa’ colours here 😀 I wish I could try the formula, but I need to finish a couple more existing lipsticks before I can justify another one 😉

  5. I went and had a play with a few of these yesterday. Loved Sweetheart, though you’re right, unevenness (e.g. fingertip lines) will show right up unless you concentrate. I think the one that looked best on me was probably Lili… anyway I didn’t buy one because they also had the autumn eyeshadows & polishes. I was veeeeery tempted by Massaï, and still am, but… I have autograph tokens to buy, LOL. ^_^

  6. I haven’t checked whether these are available here as well. I keep my head down or look at somewhere else whenever I walk past Dior at the malls. I just know if I indulge in a little bit of swatching, I’ll end up buying a few lip products. LOL

    • Haha, it’s dangerous for sure! This is actualy one of the ‘good’ (?!) things about the insane makeup prices in NZ – kind of keeps you from going nuts (usually).

When I was looking up the shade names, these lipsticks were available on all the Dior websites, including the Hong Kong/Asia one. So I think the odds are good! 😀

    • Dior has indeed had some great launches recently! These kind of came out of the blue for me – I’m used to seeing things all over the US blogs well before stuff makes it over to these shores, so when I popped in and saw these, unprepared, I was all ‘Whoa…’ OMGMUSTSWATCH.

      What’s your favourite Fluid Stick?

    • Hehe, I know how you feel! At least it’s not 40 shades like NARS LOL!

I really wish I had the capital to just get one and test it out against the Revlon lip butters and maybe Bloom Tangerine! But then I wish I had the capital for lots of things makeup-wise… 😉

    • You’re very welcome, Madeleine 🙂 Oho, a tip on the mystery shade! 😀 You could be right, actually. I’m so annoyed – I could have sworn I’d lined them all up in numerical order in the display before swatching…

Which shade did you end up going for?

Thank you so much for the lovely words! ^_^
