Greetings from the lair of a shimmer-loving beholder, fellow rogues!
As you may know, I’ve recently been adventuring my way through a couple of rather nice palettes from Sleek – the Storm palette (permanent) and the Arabian Nights Smoke and Shadows Palette (Limited Edition But By The Gods They Better Make It Permanaent Because Simbad’s Seas Argh!). I promised to do a few looks with these palettes, and here they are! I’ve included a couple of everyday wearable/minimalist options, one lovely can be day can be evening look, and one fabulously flamboyant celebration of the colour blue. I hope you enjoy them – if you do, let me know and more shall be forthcoming! One small disclaimer – I apologise of some of the ‘blending’ is a little zany – as usual, I only used my fingers for this exercise (I have a brush arriving soon, I promise!). :-).
Let’s get started, shall we? Remember, you can click on any of the images to expand them.
Everyday Options for the Minimalist or Office Rogue
You always need a couple of trusty go-to options for your day at school/the office/swashbuckling astral sea piracy, so here are some choices form the Arabian Nights Palette:
The Champagne and Chocolate Rogue: Scheherazade’s Tale (peachy champagne shimmer) all over the mobile lid and blended up into the crease. Urban Decay Demolition liner (matte chocolate brown) on the lash line and both waterlines. Sephora brand waterproof mascara. This is a very understated look for fair skinned rogues – if darker skinned adventurers fear a too-pale/shimmery effect, they need only substitute their favourite ‘MLBL’ (My Lids But Luminous) shimmer eyeshadow, and perhaps a black liner! 🙂
The Stealth Sorceress a favourite trick of mine, in which you apply a tame eyeliner and the smoosh a bright eyeshadow into it! Here we have UD Demolition again (yes, I am obsessed) on the lash line and both waterlines, with Simbad’s Seas (<3 ❤ <3) smooshed into the outer corners of both lash lines, and blended on the lower one. Yes, smooshed is a technical term.
The Mystical Woodland Nymph (Could be Spring, Could be Autumn!)
This is basically the look I was dying to do with the Storm Palette as soon as I opened it up! Here’s how it works:
Inner Corner: Thunderstorm (pale true gold)
Centre Lid: Perfect Storm (gorgeous rose pink)
Outer Corner and Crease: Firestorm (pink copper shimmer)
Lower Lash Line: Outer corner = Dust Storm (rust shimmer); Centre = Perfect Storm; Inner = Thunder Storm (true pale gold)
Brownbone and Edge Blending: Snow storm: (pale champagne shimmer)
Liner: Urban Decay Stash (golden shimmered moss/khaki green) on upper and lower lash line, and lower waterline. Upper waterline = UD Demolition (matte chocolate brown)
Mascara: Sephora Waterproof (as above).
I love how this look is evocative of both Spring and Autumn, with the pink and green being simultaneously fresh, but a little muted. The colour scheme really makes me think of a woodland nymph-y, druid-y, dryad-y vibe; like tree trunks overgrown with moss, and shimmering rosy flowers with golden centres. Stop looking at me like that ;-).
The Magical Flamboyant Egyptian-y Peacock Butterfly Thing!
As soon as I swatched Simbad’s Seas, I knew I had to use it, preferably with gold, preferably in a dramatic, vaguely Egyptian themed way. This (for better or worse) is the result! Not an everyday look, perhaps, but it is a lot of fun!
Inner Corner: Gold Souk (scattered glittering gold)
Centre Lid: Simbad’s Seas (stunning, perfect sapphire blue shimmer! Augh!)
Outer Corner: Hocus Pocus (deep green/grey iridescent shimmer)
Crease: Sorcerer (hazy dark grey with multicoloured sparkle)
Lower Lash Line: Simbad’s Seas, Gold Souk
Brownbone and Edge Blending: Scheherazade’s Tale (champagne shimmer)
Liner: Urban Decay Ultraviolet (basically Simbad’s Seas in liner form!) on upper and lower lash line, lower waterline and mystical dot. Upper waterline = UD Zero (matte black).
Mascara: Sephora Waterproof (as above).
I had a lot of fun with this look (as is probably evident). I have many more plans for Simbad’s Seas, which include more wearable applications like the one at the top of this post. In the meantime, who doesn’t want to look like a magical Flamboyant Egyptian-y Peacock Butterfly Thing? :-D.
What do you think, fellow adventurers? Would you wear any of these looks? What would you like to see next? Have you ever wanted to be a Magical Flamboyant Egyptian-y Peacock Butterfly Thing?
FYI: Sleek Palettes cost US$11.99 for 12 x 1.1 g (i.e. 12.12g, i.e. 0.43 oz) of total stuff, and may be acquired from www.sleekmakeup.com. Urban Decay 24/7 liners cost $20 each for 1.2g /0.04 oz, and may be acquired from www.urbandecay.com (These links aren’t affiliate, just here for your convenience!). If you are a Rogue of Middle Earth, Sleek’s shipping is insanely reasonable direct from the website, and Urban Decay is readily accessible via YouShop!
Until next time, fellow adventurers, don’t forget to check for traps!

The looks are lovely, especially Magical Flamboyant Egyptian-y Peacock Butterfly Thing.” This whole post had me LMAO.

Hehe, glad you liked it ^_^. The blue look kind of cracked me up when I saw it on my face, tbh. I was thinking ‘there is no outfit in my wardrobe (possibly any wardrobe) that goes with this eye. Not even my ballet gear. But I love it anyway! LOL!

Well then, you need to go get yourself an outfit that goes with that eye look, cos it’s absolutely gorgeous!

ROFL – I’m trying to imagine what that would be…it’s definitely in the tutu family, that’s for sure! I just got offered the role of Alice in my ballet’s end of year recital of Alice in Wonderland, but I think this eye look would look good on a character from that story! 😀

Maybe it would be something long and flowy, satiny, shiney and silky in a sparkly, gorgeous, indigo! YEH YEH, I like that!!! HA HA 😄😄😄💃💃💃

LOL, first I have to come up with the wearable version…
I’s OK Jaa…I have the same reaction to that blue eyeshadow. Just sit down by me and have a cup of tea…soothing tea… *pats* 😀

Hehe, If I can get a suitable occasion, I will. Either that or maybe one day I’ll just wear it into the lab and see what happens, LOL! Do you think it’ll look good behind safety glasses? 😀

Wouldn’t that be wonderful? You and me and a cup, err.. two cups of tea… hehehehe! Wait, I don’t like tea! Except the milky type then I heart!!

Hehe, you probably don’t like tea because you’ve never had the The Nil Noir from Mariage Freres in Paris. I have one sacred tin of it that I brought back from my last quest to Paris, and I’m making it last until I can go on another adventure there…
…I mean, what else are you going to drink with your biscuits, Jaa?

Oh yes!!!! 😄😄😄💃💃💃🏄🏄🏄 Definitely wear it to work!!!! 😄😄😄 Sometimes you have to shake things up a bit to see if people are paying attention!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂I think it would look most gorgeous behind safety glasses!!! But be warned, your eyes will be sooooooo magnetic, people will not be able to help themselves!!! 😄😄😄 Whoever you come in contact with may just want to take those glasses off to see those gorgeous eyes!!!!

Hehe, I love that you thnk my eyes are green! ^_^ That is the power iof blue eyeshadow, and part of the reason I like it so much – it hides the fact that my eyes are kind of a boring blue/grey, LOL! Although, having said that, one is more green and one more blue (under the grey).
I should have another look coming soon with the magenta from Valley of Diamonds!

It is just pathetic and I do not say the look is inspired by your sophisticated work. The blue color made me do this, lol!

OOO I think I love that third look the most!!! Very interesting liner work, Syl!

Aww, thanks, Sunny! 😀 Liner is so much fun, don’t you think? (and kind of easier than shadow, shhh!). If I wanted to do more detail, I think I’d have to go for a liquid or gel liner and a fine brush though. Pencil liners can only give you so much flexibility…

i’d wear the second and third look. the first look is nice but too tame for the boyfriend’s preferences 😛 who cares if smoosh is a word if we understand what you mean? the bf had a huge problem with depot when he was proofreading my blog for me and i was like move on! it’s a standard word to use in the community! my favorite look is the woodland nymph! stash is one of my favorite colors and i often do a look like woodland but with gold and brown where you have pink. i love pink but it’s a hard color to get right on my eyes

I think it’s pretty awesome that you have a boyfriend who supports non-tame eye makeup looks! 😀 The wizard is pretty good like that too – his favourite lipsticks are also the super dark and vampy ones, surprisingly!
I’m so glad you like the woodland nymph look 🙂 Pink is kind of a tricky colour at the best of times, when it comes to the eyes – a little too much pigment and you can look sick, a little too bright and you can be getting way more ’80s than you meant to! 😛 I like this soft rosy colour from the Storm palette because it’s relatively understated, but a part of me still yearns to get Woodstock from UD (or similar) and go nuts with it…
I think pink is easiest to wear (for me) if it’s in the centre of the lid, with another colour making a barriet to the lash line (Stash here). In the inner corner or on the lash line, and things start to look a little…conjunctival… 😀

I love these looks you put together, Syl! And, you have such gorgeous eyes :). Also, your commentary (as always) made me laugh, hehe (I also can have sleepy lashes and that random mascara fleck here and there!).

Aww, thanks, Carolyn! STOP IT YOU’RE MAKING ME BLUSH (in the natural, less flattering way, LOL!).
The mascara flecks, man. I swear I will never escape them. Every. Single. Time. I apply mascara, no matter how carefully, I manage to get at least one. Sometimes I motivate myself to clean them off, or they’re on my dark liner and I can smudge them in. Mostly, however, I just kind of run with it because, well, I’m lazy ;-).

Love these looks sigh. and If you hadn’t pointed out all the “flaws” in the woodland nymph one no one would have even noticed lol. Just looked so pretty to me! I cant carry off these colours well but id like to try …some day !!

Hehe, I only pointed it out for the (weak) comedy value 😉 I wore the look out for Fathers’ Day here, so you can bet I was happy with it! 😀
You should totally give it a go! My usual route is to think of the colour I *want* to wear (e.g. ‘pink’) then try and pick one more neutral lighter colour, one more neutral darker colour, and a constrasting (but inkeeping) liner. That was how I built that Woodland Nymph one, anyway!

The blue look is really great. I need to be bolder in my looks!

I always think the liner is the pace to start with that. Especially at thr outer corners – either a more adventurous flick with a ‘normal’ liner (i.e. black/brown etc) or a pop of colour at the outer corner, or both! It’s how I kind of eased myself into wearing brighter/bolder/more ‘complicated’ looks. I still don’t wear them every day, but I think there’s something special in the way you feel when you have that little bit of adventure in your liner 😉

A palette that you can take from office rogue to magical flamboyant was clearly a great investment! Also, how much do I love that you refer to the homeland as Middle Earth? LOL

I like to think so, LOL! 😀 It justifies more Sleek palettes… right?
I needed something more ‘fantasy’ than ‘New Zealand’, so I just leaned on our country’s new (touristic) reason for existing 😉 I do love it though – I remember watching ROTK in Germany back in 2003/2004 and getting homesick sitting there in the theatre looking at ‘my’ mountains and landscapes…
