What’s in The Rogue’s August Wishlist Chest? Lipsticks, Blushes and Eyeliners!

Greetings from my imaginary world of awesome, fellow rogues!

I’ve been seeing so many cool wishlists around recently that I thought I’d gather up a few of my own ‘I wish’ items, and post them here for your amusement/between dungeon coffee break reading! We’re still knee deep in the giant, cable eating spiders at the moment, so I apologise for the relatively short post! I may be stealthily operating from my work computer to post this! 😉 Since there’s not as much detail as usual, I’ve included quite a few links to other related posts, both my own and others’, in case you’re hungry for more beauty reading!

Without further ado, these are the shinies – you may notice an unsurprising general colour trend… 😉

August Wishlist

WISHLIIIIIST

From top to bottom, left to right:

Makeup Geek eyeliners: The one I have here in the picture is the bloody red ‘Poison’, but I wouldn’t mind collectiong all their colours! I’ve never tried them, but they just look stunning, and the names are very rogue/adventure appropriate, in general. There’s even a gold one called ‘Treasure’ – I mean, come on! Also, I would love to own a bloody, burgundy eyeliner, since it’s not a shade you see very often!

Makeup Geek blushes: These have been getting quite a bit of blog attention/love recently, for good reason, it seems! Although quite a few shades have caught my eye, the one area of my (admittedly miniscule) blush collection that is severley underrepresented is the berry/purple/lavender end! As such, the shades I have here are Rendezvous and Secret Admirer, a berry and lavender respectively.

Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Melted Fig: Although there are many shades in this line that look lovely, Melted Fig was the first one to really catch my eye and make me go ‘Ooh’. This is strange, since you’d think the purple would be top of my list, but I am having a huge ‘muted pinks‘ thing going on right now (despite the fact that Middle Earth is currently leaving Autumn/Winter).

YSL Le Teint Encre de Peau Foundation: Well, what can I say. YSL currently makes my 3 HG foundation products, and the whole ‘Encre de Peau’ think just sounds awesome, and catpures the idea of a thin substance that still has strong tinting power. Coincidentally, Lisa Eldridge’s newest video has a positive sort of mini-review of it, which never hurts a thing in my estimation!

OCC Lip Tar in Technopagan: Seriously. I just. Whatever. This was made for me. Augh! Want. Incoherence? Yes! 😀

Hourglass Mechanical Pencil Liner: OK, despite the zany cost/use ratio that these have (by the company’s own admission, surreally enough), I just really want to try one. I don’t wear black liner all that often, and I have kind of a thing for mechanical pencils, having used one more or less since I started school! There I was, as a little 5 year old rogue, with my pencil case full of lockpicks, hinge grease, and mechanical pencils… *wipes away nostalgic tear*.

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in 03 Violet Incognito: So, it’s purple, comes in shiny artefact packaging, and has ‘incognito’ in the name. I swear companies actually have a whole sub-market for rogues, going by the names they give things. The best part is that I already love the formula, and I’ve swatched this thing – it is actually purple! Not so much of that weak-sauce burgundy copout stuff… 😛

Marc Jacobs Lovemarc Lip Gel in Cabaret: OK, so this one is really a WISHlist item. It’s a shade from the MJ line that’s only available to VIB Rouge members with Sephora! Still, when I saw the swatches on Temptalia, my little rogueish heart went pitter-pat. I already like the Lip Gel formula, and Cabaret manages to be simultaneously in the purple line, the muted pinks line and the vampy line, making it kind of the triple threat of my lipstick colour world right now. GAH! Why did it have to be VIB Rouge exclusive!! T_T

Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick in Poe: Come on, it’s a high performing NAVY SPARKLE LIPSTICK. I see it’s currently sold out on Spehora’s website – I think there’s a lesson here for all the mainstream brands out there: there is a market for non-mainstream lipstick colours! Please try more of them! I appreciate that KvD fans are probably more likely to go for a navy sparkle lipstick than, say, Dior’s target market, but still. 😉 Poe isn’t the only lipstick from this line I have my eye on, and my fellow bloggers have been tempting me inordinately

Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Liner in Minx: So, I’ve read all the mixed reviews of these. And, despite being a massive fan of UD’s liners generally, I’m not sure I’d actually invest in the whole set just off the bat. However, I am actually in the market for a smudgy, smoky navy blue liner, and Minx is very tempting. OK, so are Cult and Plushie, but the blue is really what I’m after. I even just got sent a voucher for a discount on shipping with YouShop (the means by which I get my UD to Middle Earth). Gods help me… #rogueproblems

So! That was my little wishlist for August (although it kind of covers July as well, really).

Does anything catch your eye on that list? Have you tried some of the things there? How do you feel about navy sparkle lipsticks? 😀

Until next time, fellow rogues, don’t forget to check for loot as well as traps!

  1. Hourglass and YSL are on my wishlist too! even though I am not a big foundation wearer it does not hurt to have an amazing formula for the “special days” 😛

    Like

    • Hehe, you have a record comment time! 😀 I’m not a big foundation wearer either, actually. and one of the things that appeals to me about that YSL one is that it’s suposed to be very thin, but still wil achievable coverage if necessary. I just can’t stand feeling like I’m actually wearing foundation! (But obviously I have things I want to cover sometimes 😉 )

      • EXACTLY! I cannot stand the feel of foundation and I have actually been loving the Jouer luminizing tint a lot! if you are ever in a close vicinity of that one.. I strongly recommend grabbing a tube! 🙂 I tried the YSL Tocuhe Eclat foundation and although I love the illuminator.. the foundation seemed sticky.. I am a NON FOUNDATION person like really!!

      • Nah.. I haven’t the one in the pretty white tube right? I do love my Dior one though! 🙂 YSL lipsticks are another level though.. thers is nothing quite like it! 😀 I want a nice pinky one from the Volupte shine range may be 7 or 8 or 13 ?

  3. Hey Syl, thanks for the link love 😉 If you could get one of those Hourglass liners, I think you should definitely go ahead. I’m curious about the YSL foundation as well. I know a lot of new foundations will be coming out this autumn, but I also saw it in the Lisa Eldridge video, and I’m pretty sold 🙂

    • You’re welcome, Sunny! Thanks for the awesome posts! 😀 I will definitely see if I can get my hands on the Hourglass (at least to test on my hand, LOL) if/when it arrives at the Mecca Cosmetical Hourglass stand!

  4. I finally saw Poe in person at Sephora yesterday! The tester had been used so aggressively that there were only a couple millimeters of product left, and I had to scoop a swatch out of the bottom of the tube with one of the little disposable lip brushes. So yeah, it’s fair to say that there’s a market for an indigo lipstick with pink glitter. Not sure I could justify spending $22 on something I’d wear once or twice, but it is sooo pretty and definitely worth your roguish desire. I have to say, though, most of the other Studded Kiss lipsticks looked pretty dry and patchy, the sparkly ones especially. 😦 You could make them work, I’m sure, but they don’t glide on effortlessly.

Melted Fig is gorgeous, too! I’d like to find a color equivalent in a conventional lipstick formula, since I’m fairly certain that I’d manage to spill one of the Melted tubes all over my bag…

    • I know how you feel about the ‘expense for infrequent wear thing’, but I have to confess, purple or navy lipsticks are my weakness – you know, the one you say you’collect’, to justify it ;-).I suppose I do collect them, really, but I’m quite stringent on what I classify as a true purple (heve my weak sauce burgundy comment). Blues are a little easier, since so few mainstream brands make them. I think the only other one is what, Illamasqua?

Poe seemed to be a particularly good one from that line, from the reviews I’ve seen. I haven’t come across a review of the sparkly purple one yet (although, to be fair, I haven’t searched), which was the other one I was kind of interested in.

As far as I can tell, there isn’t an easily identifiable dupe for Melted Fig, sadly. I think the only thing close to it in my own stash is that Laura Mercier Antique Pink, but the Melted lipsticks definitely have a specific finish to them. I, too, wondered about the spillability of the Meted packaging (vs my own clumsiness), and I’d probably reserve it as an ‘apply at home, hope for longevity’ lisptick myself!

Now i stoped, after having our boy, dont have enough time :(. My DH still play it sometimes and we are waiting to see the next extension.

      • Aww, never fear – soon your little boy will be old enough to start gaming along with you! 😀

Guild Wars is really good – I found the community on my server is really nice, and there’s no PvP unless you enter specific PvP servers. I prefer PvE, and cooperative stuff. I also like that Guild Wars always has new content, but there’s only a one-time purchse of the game, not a subscription fee (which is the only thing that ever really stopped me trying WoW, actually).

  5. Girlfrienddddddd you have so many on your list!!! ;D That OCC Lip Tar and KvD lipstick are BADA$$!!! Wish I had the guts to wear those shades out of the house haha.

As for the Hourglass eyeliner, GET IT if you can!! I bought mine since the launch and have been using it every single day since. Though I refuse to write a review until I finish it (I really need to know how many uses I can get out of it!!). ;D

TF Melted Fig is such a gorgeous color but the formula of Melted and I do not get along. I can’t get past the feeling it leaves on my lips. It seems to transfer a lot, too. I hope you get a better result if you decide to give it a try!!

Get the cable thing sorted out soon, will ya?!

Ooh! I can’t wait to hear your review, and see the results of your longevity test! I really want to know how their claim matches up to someone’s reality in terms of uses…

I don’t think I’ve ever tried a formula like the Melted lipsticks (I’ve never tried true liquid lipstick, either), so I’m not sure what it would do on me! It seems, a bit like the Dior fluid sticks, to vary a lot from person to person, so I guess I’ll just have to be a brave rogue and try someday! But the colour… T_T want iiiit…

I am stomping down enchanted cable eating spiders as we speak, Jaa. 😉

  6. Loving your witty and pretty blog! Followed you over from another one. I’m also an avowed purple fan, all shades please. The lavender Make UP Geek blush looks beautiful- hard to find a lavender blue hue blush, which I adore. Have not tried Make Up Geek line yet…now severely tempted. I’m on the lookout for a blue tinged lavender eyeliner pencil- have not yet found that ultimate shade that resides in my head.

    • Aww, thank you so much, erin! I’m so pleased that you’re enjoying my ramblings 😀 High fives to another purple fan!

Makeup Geek is very much on my radar at the moment – I keep seeing the awesomeness everywhere, and it’s so affordable (well, by Middle Earth standards, LOL!).

OOOOOHHHH – you’re looking for one of those liners too?! I have a concept in my head, and nothing has come close yet… if you do ever find anything, let me know, as I’m on the same quest!

      Like

    • I try, LOL. You should have seen how long I spent tweaking the angle of the Melted Fig thing 😉

I like to think that I would rock that lipstick…chasing the wizard around the house, threatening to give him indigo sparkle kisses…

  7. I am really intrigued by the new YSL foundation! So far, I’ve only seen a few reviews here and there but it seems to be mixed. However, I also saw the same Lisa Eldridge video and she definitely had a positive take on it, so that makes me still interested! Happy weekend! 🙂

    • New foundations are always super intriguing, as they’re so sensitive to formula, I think. At some point I kind of want to go to a YSL counter, and swatch all their different foundations in my shade, and make some sort of comparison…I’m not sure how relevant it woud be if I weren’t swatching on my face, but there’s a part of me that just wants to do it, heh!

Hope you’re having a great weekend!

  8. Yes to the Hourglass liners! I’m so curious, but they’re so bad for my wallet….

I’m more interested int he YSL Kiss and Blushes than in the foundation. I hardly ever wear foundation, and I have quite a few in my closet (?)

I have the MUG gel liners. They’re pretty awesome, actually. I want Poison too, except I keep asking myself where in the world I’ll ever use it… but yes, I definitely need the blushes. I’m so tempted to make a palette of MUG blushes in quirky colors…

    Like

    • Aha! You have the liners! What’s your favourite one of the ones you have? Glad to hear they’re awesome! 😀

Ah, yes, te Kiss and Blushes. There is a new stand of these at the Smith and Caughey’s YSL counter, and I keep sort of sidling past, willing myself not to spend whatever ridiculous amount they are here. I do kind of want to do a swatch up of all of them, though. I wonder if that would be useful?

      Like

      • Fame and Amethyst are my favorites! I have my eye on Rave and Twinkle, they look gorgeous. I’d compare them to MAC Fluidlines in texture, but you might need to build up color in some of the lighter shades (but I guess that would hold true for any brand, yes? 😀 )

Swatches are always useful! It’s too bad they cost more than a pretty penny – I’ve played around with them, and they’re a wonderful texture, and I’d love to own all of them (but clearly can’t, of course 😛 )

        Like

      • I didn’t think they were so expensive, but then, Maybelline gel pot liners cost ~$20 each here, so $8.99 seemed ok, LOL!

I totally want Fame – it’s one of my must-haves! I do have an unhealthy obsession with teal/turquoise liners, though.

  9. I so want to try out the new YSL foundation! However, I’ve still got an almost full Armani Maestro and a sample pot of the Lancome Air de Teint, so I can wait…

What I can’t wait for, though, is all the Travel Exclusives I’m going to look at on my way through Hong Kong to London! Tuesday! Eep!

    • One of the reasons that I became so interested after watching Lisa’s video was that she mentioned that she didn’t like AM so much because it was too siliconey, whereas the YSL one was better. I tried AM in Dubai, and although I like dhte finish and the lightness of it, I felt like it never quite ‘dried down’, and I always had a transfer-y, silicone-y kind of greasybutnotgreasy layer on my face. It was quite strange!

Woop woop! Aww, yeah! Travel is the best. So excited for you! Looking forward to hear if you loot anything from the Duty Frees! 😀

    • I’m so glad Technopagan is permanent (it’s permanent, right?) – it’s gonign to take me some time to get around to purchasing (complicated processfrom NZ!), but as a lover and collector of purple sparkly lipsticks, I actually can’t go past it. It’s just so ridiculously awesome! 😀

      • Ag, same here. For a South African living in Korea, they are really hard to come by. Hopefully one of my friends will travel to the states for Christmas, else I’d just have to pay the $15 shipping from sephora, for a $100 purchase. I’ll have to buy them all then. Doesn’t seem like the worst idea actually 😉 I’m obsessed with purple.

        Like

      • Heh, I know the feeling 😉 I would like to get a few more lip tars myself, but from the current collection I think it’d only be Technopagan, Pagan and Vain (? the dark blue one). The orange is pretty cool, but I absolutely can’t do the ‘nudes’!

        Like

      • I don’t go well with nudes ether. I have Femme but it makes me look like snow white’s corpse. And Ophelia is only a tad better. I use them for mixing colours so it’s not a complete waste 😉

        Like

      • That’s actually one of the things I’m really interested in trying lip tars for – the mixing! 😀 Basically, I want Pagan so I can purple ALL THE THINGS.

    • 😀 😀 I just saw your tweet, and the post on Bloglovin’! Looking forward to reading it!

Don’t you just hate it when they package things in purple, and then it’s actually burgundy or plum? I mean, I’m OK with plum as a colour, but brands have a special talent for making the packaging *cool* purple, when the contents are at the very least *warm* purple, if not one of those other colours. I have kind of a ‘Go purple or go home’ policy when it comes to the way brands market their stuff! 😉

  11. Oh Syl, we both have a bad case of want for those Makeup Geek blushes. Aside from that, I also want their eyeshadows so bad! Temptalia’s given them high marks! But the shades I like are always out of stock. Good thing they’re permanent though. LOL

    • I feel like it’s more like WAAAAAANT 😀 For a person who went from not thinking blush was anything to even look at, I have developed a bit of an addiction. I don’t feel like I need to collect ALL THE BLUSHES, but I do want to round out my colour selection, and I hear such good things about the MUG ones – on Temptalia especially, as you say (although I also enjoyed VintageorTacky’s video review of them). I’m planning on signing up for notification when the liners and blushes I want come back in stock…hopefully I might be able to nab a couple!
