Greetings from the long road to adventure, fellow rogues!
Welcome back to Part 3 of the chronicle of this rogue’s desert adventures! Part 1, my travel/desert makeup extravaganza, may be found here, and Part 2, my travel and desert skincare tips may be found here. This time we’re going to be taking a peek at some of the fun Duty Free packs, palettes and other goodies that I managed to snap photos of while I was waiting at various Great Eagle ports in Auckland and Kuala Lumpur, and a random snap of a UAE-unique (I think?) product at the Dubai Mall Spehora. I should mention now that I didn’t actually get to buy any of these, so this is more of a ‘hey look at the interesting stuff you can get as travel exclusives!’. I find them fascinating…
This post is basically picspam, because (much as I might have liked to) I couldn’t stand there and swatch all the things (Duty Free sales assistants are…not as amenable to that sort of thing. One lady looked at me like I’d asked to see her underwear when I asked if I could do some blog-type swatching. Awkward moment.).
New Dior goodies (although I should mention that the pink mascara was sold out LITERALLY EVERYWHERE IN THREE COUNTRIES. JEEZ).
Here we have the special Maison Lancome counter in the Dubai Mall Sephora, containing special Oud themed perfume popular in the region. Armani seems to have a similar arrangement, but I couldn’t get near enough to photograph it! Usual Sephora chaos…
Clinique has some nice stuff, but their lipstick trios are very brown-themed. This is fine if you are a fan of/can suit brown and beige lipsticks, but sadly not for this rogue! The Chubby Stick set is nice though.
Lancome Tavel Exclusives! I do actuall own a couple of the Lancome Absolue Voyage palettes , so if you’d like a review, please let me know! (They’re not the current ones, however). Otherwise, Lancome seems to expect you to want mascara and Juicy Tubes…
YSL exclusives! They do some really nice palettes here, actually. I was sorely tempted, but had such a list of things to hunt for in Dubai I restrained myself ;-).
The outer covers of these palettes are pink patent leather and blue patent leather (if menory serves), with gold embellishment. Typically ‘YSL flashy’, but a bit more exciting than some of the plain black plastic palettes (Lancome, Chanel).
This is the ‘shine’ variant of the Pure Colour Envy line, which they released in Asia. Some of the colours are pretty, but I have to admit they’re a little patchier than I’d like on the swatch.
Estee Lauder tend to have a pretty phenomenal selection of tavel exclusives and multi-packs, actually.
Dior exclusives! Now we’re into the ‘bulk buy’ territory. The three Addict gloss pack is pretty nifty, and comes with Diablotine, a personal favourite.

So there we have it! I thought I had managed to get more decent photos, actually, but a combination of bad lighting, moblie camera and crowds of people in front of things conspired against me :-P. I hope you’ve enjoyed this little peek into some travel exclusive makeup though!

Lancome and Estee Lauder always stock so many travel palettes! I remember picking the Shu Uemura cleansing oil travel bottles in a pack and Bibbi Brown empty palette fit my eye-shadows and blush.. from Hong Kong & Incheon a couple of years back! Somehow Asian airports are better stocked that European!

I agree! They’re super well stocked, and you get to see all the Asia exclusive lines and things that they have. There was a whole bunch of stuff that I wanted to photograph, but there were too many people in front of them!

I travel quite a lot (family in Belgium = lots of trips back and forth) and yes, duty free shopping is awesome! I might pick up the pink IT eyeliner from Dior next week at the airport! The mascara is not really my cup of tea though.

My sister asked if I could get it for her (I probably would have gone for the purple if I were in the market, hehe!), and I tried so hard to find it, but it was just completely GONE. So was the purple one, usually, and even the blue. Can’t wait to see the pink liner if you do pick it up!

ooh…that was some picgasm (if you know what I mean ;)…btw, my hubby gifted me a Cpl of Dior travel exclusive makeup palette….I know lot of ppl wud kill me fr this, but i don’t somehow prefer eyeshadows n lipsticks staying together in 1 palette… EL collection is awesome….though m not travelling much this year, but my hubby travels too much across Asia, so i keep telling him what to pick (n he gets fr me in case he is in a mood to 😉

What a nice husband! 😉 conveniently frequent flying! I like my travel palettes (partly for novelty and partly for being able to try a variety of products from one brand, but under all general, normal circumstances I totally agree – powders and cream products need to stay far away from each other!! 😀

I really wanted to get some stuff at Frankfurt airport but by the time I’d got my pets checked in it was 20 minutes to boarding time. That left me just enough time to pick something up for my Grams.

I hate how, with airports, you’re usually either rushing, or stuck there for 8 hours or something! I mean, with 8 hours you have time to shop, but that’s the point where you discover that you only needed like an hour or two anyway 😛

Heartache aside, I really love those travel palettes! I would have bought the Lancome one.. and maybe the YSL one, too. And the Dior lipgloss set….. oh stop it, Jaa! Haha.

I bought two things Duty Free, as I recall – one Lancome Lip Lover and one set of 3 Guerlain Rouge Automatiques! My loot post is going up soon (the first overview, anyway), so you’ll see them there!
I will add the Lancome palettes to my list! (I’ve kind of secretly wanted to review them, but wasn’t sure if people were keen, as they’re not exactly super readily available…)

Duty Free is pretty much a trap I try to avoid. I figure if I can’t afford it with tax, I shouldn’t buy it without tax. But man, does that Sirene sing her song. Those Dior Palettes would have been pure temptation.

In the NZ duty free, i agree – the difference isn’t enough to justify the purchase, usually (note the prices on that new Dior range!). But when you’re in Dubai duty free, and you can try Guerlain for the first time because you can get a set of 3 full sized lipsticks for the price one would be in NZ…well, that does rather make a rogue giddy 😉 I can only imagine the insanity if I were ever in US Duty free – I imagine those must be the cheapest (genuine, retail) cosmetics on the planet! (Note: totally have no data to back up that assumption… :-P)

Well done dodging the crowds. And that sales assistant should be ashamed – she should realise that makeup blogs probably contribute a bunch of her customers. ;P I love the little mini-packages. Plus, at that size, you’re so much more likely to use stuff up, LOL.
If you do a review of the Lancôme travel thingy, do you want a review of the Chanel one to go with it? Compare & contrast kinda thing?
Also also… it turns out there are benefits to living in far-flung parts of the empire…

Ooh, yes please! 😀 i have been tempted by the Chanel ones (and YSL ones ) many times, because i think they’re actually a great and affordable way to try out a whole bunch of a brand’s products – usually you get at least lipstick, powder, eyeshadow, mascara and liner, if not also concealer, gloss, lipliner and blush!

Gah, tell me about it. It doesn’t help that YSL is a brand that I have relatively little in the way of colour cosmetics from (just the one new lipstick!), so these palettes are extra tempting for the variety they offer!
