Top 5 Catacomb Clearing Corals!

Greetings from the depths of an as-yet uncleared catacomb, fellow rogues!

There are times when you suddenly realise that you’re going to need a little extra help on your adventures, whether it be escaping a mad sorceror’s tower, raiding a particularly large dragon’s hoard, or, like today, clearing a particularly epic catacomb full of the shambling undead.

Fortunately, in this wonderful adventuring world, there are plenty of stalwart fellow adventurers that you can call on to help! Today’s post is a full-party collaborative effort with Christina of The Makeup Train, as noble a treasure-seeker as you’ll ever find! Did you know that one of the best ways to clear a catacomb is with coral-toned makeup? Well, now you do, and to show you how we’re gonna clear things up here, we’re each bringing you our Top 5 Catacomb Clearing Corals. Please hop on over to Christina’s blog to see the coral tools she’ll be using too! I hope you enjoy this collaboration – if you’re as excited as I am about coral things (and blasting away the shambling undead), I know you’ll love it 🙂

Adventurers assemble! The party members are arguing over who gets to take which awesome Coral Weapon of Destory Undead. Don’t worry, they’ll get themselves together shortly.

Alright, so I combed through my stash, and it turns out that 90% of all the coral things I own are lip products 😀 So I hope you came into this catacomb with a properly prepped pout, people! These are in no particular order of preference, but we’ll get an old favourite out of the way first, shall we? (Arm and lip swatches are at the bottom of the post!)

Blessed Bloom Sheer Lipstick of Tangerine Smiting +3

I’m guessing you’re all probably kind of sick of hearing about this little gem by now – you can find a review here and more swatches here if you’d like some more detail, but suffice it to say that I wouldn’t go dungeoneering without this, catacomb or no. As you can see from the photo, it also makes for an excellent stealth tool/hiding place.

Holy Tarte Maracuja Divine Shine Lipgloss of Blissful Destruction +2

Eleimos can’t deny his druidic attraction to the floral packaging on this coral-tinted weapon. He’s a bit of a sucker for packaging, actually (don’t tell him I said that). In any case, this is a sheer, coral tinted, minty lipgloss that comes in one of those mysterious clicky pen things. It’s probably supposed to be plumping, but it doesn’t do much on me – this is a *good* thing, by the way.  Fortunately, whatever it does to the undead is making it a clicky-pen pump action weapon of doom, so we’ll let Eleimos stand at the back and continue flinging glossballs from the brush-shaped tip of this Tarte lipgloss in Blissful.

So here’s the thing – in combination with my minimal photography skills, the camera would either focus on Eleimos, or the tube. This was the picture that had the most middle ground… **special thanks and hugs to Karen for this lovely gloss, as Tarte doesn’t normally exist in this country :-)**

Radiant Dior Addict Lipgloss of the Diablotine +643

I know what you’re going to say – ‘+643?!?! That is totally OP! How do you even need anyone else in the room? Why is the catacomb not just a smoking crater!?’ Calm down – it’s just the shade number ;-). This is a gloriously corally, gloriously glossy gloss with a generous (though still classy) helping of golden shimmer. Susie the Bard wields this like a pro (which she is, really, but still), blasting the hordes of the undead with arcs of hydrating, radiantly shimmery goodness. Just quietly, this is one of the wetter glosses I’ve ever tried, so I do sometimes feel like it travels outside my lipline, but then I look in the mirror and it hasn’t! Magic. Susie! Stop rolling your eyes and blast that skeleton that’s sneaking up on you already!

This was the best angle I found to capture all the beautiful golden sparkle that this coral Dior Addict Gloss in Diablotine has. Gorgeous! As usual, Susie can’t help but stare into the glitter. It’s a bard thing.

Sanctifying Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait of Annihilation +3

Sigryn and the Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait are old friends (or maybe foes?), and no-one argues with the axe-wielding dwarf warrior maiden when she chooses something as the coral augment to her arsenal. This peachy pink lipstick, with its glimmering golden sparkle, is one I wear almost every day (at least once), and I can highly recommend it if you’ve got the grit to wield it (review here). Fortunately, grit is not something that Sigryn lacks, so she’s clearing up her corner of the catacomb like a champ with this lipstick.

Luminous Nyx Round Lipstick in Margarita of Purging +597

OK, before you all freak out, the modifier is the shade number again. Also, as for Margarita of Purging, it’s not what you think. No bards were harmed in any drinking games. No indeed, the purging going on here is of the undead, who are struck back to the realm from whence they came by the luminous majesty of this shimmering, pinky coral lipstick. The only adventurer curious enough to choose this weapon after hearing the name was the venerable Khael the wizard, who (after some examination and lots of dark muttering about frostiness), realised that gentle application of this gloriously creamy lipstick yields a luminous shield over the lips, protecting them and transforming anything under it into another shade. Seriously, I am now addicted to stroking a light layer of this over other lipsticks (in stain form) to see what happens! The wear time is also surprisingly good for a lipstick this creamy, so Khael’s shield should hold for a good 3-4 hours!

Khael ponders the apparently frosty madness of Nyx Round Lipstick in Margarita, before aiming it at the hordes of undead, and releasing a luminous coral shield that purges those skeletal suckers right out of the catacomb. **special thanks to Karen again, without whom I would be a much less corally, and therefore much less happy, rogue**

Right! I expect, after all the action going on in this catacomb as these adventurers launch their coral-tinted attacks, that you’d like to take a break and see what they actually look like on a rogue (clearly the best model for, like, everything). Et voilà!

And now for the lip swatches…

Coral lips! My favourite shade for every day, and (as it turns out) the very best shade for clearing catacombs. Who knew? Beautiful and functional. The sun was kind of going in and out of the clouds, so sometimes the light colour is a little different. I haven’t altered these at all, and I’m not wearing any makeup around my mouth either – I believe sheer coral lipsticks should look good no matter what your skin’s doing!

So – that’s all from our end of the catacomb – do head on over to Christina’s post and see how she and her bandolier of coral weaponry are doing in the other corner!

Are you a coral lipstick fan? What are your must-have catacomb-clearing weapons?

Until next time, fellow adventurers, don’t forget to check for traps!

  1. OOO coral… *Drools*

I’m not even sure I can pick out 5 favorite coral lip products, because I own so many and I love all of them LOL I used to own Peach Parfait, but unfortunately the glitter bothers me quite a bit. I am really picky about shimmer/glitter tho. Most of the time, I’d tell you I’d rather have a shimmer-free lippie!

    • There is something a little weird, I’ll admit, about the grit to it and the glitteriness. But that particular lipstick just looks so good on me, and it’s so easy, it gets a free pass, LOL!

I thought of you and our shared obsession for coral when I was making this post 😉

    • It is a seriously glossy gloss. Also non-sticky, which is quite an achievement for a gloss that shiny, in my experience.

It has golden sparkles, Karen. I… golden SPARKLES! *grips Karen by shoulders, shakes gently*

    • Technically, it goes without saying that sparkles mesmerise a rogue…but we usually have to be a bit quicker to snap out of it, before we get caught by the guards or eaten by the dragon. Bards can…luxuriate a little in their sparkle obsession 😉

Margarita is a seriously versatile lipstick (despite how it may appear in the tube) – I definitely recommend trying it if you haven’t yet!

Damn it, always those advertisements when you enter the next undead plagued village…however, seems the adventurers used their weapons of choice to good effect. I still say +643 is overpowered. Or is this a high level adventure?

    • It’d have to be a *really* high level adventure. Like, all you meet is mindflayers and tarrasques and, Lolth or something.

I mean, think of what Dzerindor can do with just +3…

    • This is a good point – however, I strive to always be surrounded by enough treasure or magical artefacts that I’m not the sparkliest thing in the room. That or just use the Mage for camouflage…

  4. NYX Margarita is lovely, I will check it out next time I’m at Ulta! But Dior Diablotine has to be my favorite here. 😀 You have beautiful lips, Syl! Ok, that sounds a little creepy, no? Haha. I really don’t have a favorite coral lipstick. The ones that I like are usually the really pigmented or creamy/milky type such as Nars Lodhi. Anything with a “clear” consistency doesn’t show up well on my pigmented lips. 😀

    • Thanks for the compliment ^_^ I won’t take out a restraining order 😀

Diablotine is gorgeous! I thought it was LE from last year, so I was pleased to see on the Dior website that it’s available normally!

I wish I could wear more of the milky/creamy lipsticks, by I’m so pale that they tend to look a bit deathly/chalky on me 😦 Zero-pigment lips have their advantages, but wearing milky lip colours isn’t one of them, LOL!
