Greetings from the shadows of a well-stocked art hoard, fellow rogues!
Kind of a short post today, but I think it’s a very important one. I’ve just become aware that one of my favourite artists of all time, Rebecca Guay, is running a Kickstarter project to fund a beautiful book of her gorgeous artwork. (Fair warning, there are some lovely, painted boobies in the forthcoming pictures, so if your workplace is somehow immune to art, this might qualify as NSFW?)
For me, Rebecca Guay’s artwork is the kind that I can just sit and stare at, lost in the beauty and the details, the colours and the shimmering translucency. It’s the kind of artwork that makes my little rogueish heart go ‘SKWRK!’ when I see it (kind of like the feeling you get when the the hand of a town guard clamps down on your shoulder mid lock-pick, but in a good way). It’s the kind of artwork that motivates me to hunt down copies of every single Magic: the Gathering card she’s ever illustrated (no mean feat!). It’s the kind of artwork that makes me dance a little jig because hints of John William Waterhouse are there, but different, and better, and with the understanding of the female form that I think is rather unique to, you know, females.
Her Kickstarter video, featuring much gorgeous art, music and a lovely message for Rebecca at the end explaining her project and its motivations:
It’s also the kind of artwork that I think should be supported, and that I think needs to be even more widely known – so please do go check out her blog and her Kickstarter (the video is a great intro to her stuff), and if you like what you see, please consider helping her out! She’s already well and truly reached her goal, but she has awesome stretch goals coming down the pipeline as we speak, and there are plenty of different pledge levels and rewards to entice you. In addition, the book won’t be available anywhere offline after the Kickstarter, so you’re in for a truly special item if you decide to pitch in!
Rebecca very kindly gave me permission to spam this post with her gorgeous art – although I only *wish* I could do this stuff, all the pictures here are hers and hers alone. 🙂 One of my favourite aspects of her art is that although she has some beautiful (somewhat) monochrome works, she takes such obvious joy in rich, luminous colour, remeniscent of the Renaissance art that forms the basis of my PhD in alchemy. SERIOUSLY – LOOK AT ALL THE COLOURS:
This is only a tiny fraction of Rebecca’s amazing portfolio, so make sure you check out the links – and come join me in supporting her Kickstarter!:
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go and have a lie down.
Until next time, fellow rogues, don’t forget to check for traps (and sign up to Rebecca’s Kickstarter!),
Syl
Her art is truely stunning. That is one of the nice things about Magic the Gathering: One does get exposed to many gifted artists, almost too many.

I know, right? Someday I’m going to need to be rich enough to fill my own gallery 🙂

Ooh, I love “Pandora” and “Dusk”. I’ll keep her name in mind and check to see when the book comes out. 🙂

The book is only available through the Kickstarter, so if you’re interested, make sure you check it out! Pandora is also available as a signed print I think as one of the kickstarter pledges 😀

I have seen her work, but it’s like hearing a song and realizing it’s from that band you never knew you liked but plays all those songs you love. ~runs off to kickstarter~

Hooray! I’m so pleased you’re a fan as well 🙂 Yep, her art crops up all over the place – she’s done work in graphic novels, and cover illustration, to name a couple of other things.

She sure has talent. My boyfriend and I often sponsor games through kickstarter. I’m gonna see if I can convince him to sponsor Rebecca 🙂
