Blood and Mist… Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Raisin Rage (#250)

Greetings from the misty, nighttime streets of a mysterious village, my fellow rogues!

If you’ll recall from last time, Magcarryn was regaling us with tales of her recent adventures in a lost temple. When she finished telling us about the sparkly, shiny treasures, however, she motioned for us to follow her outside, where we wouldn’t be overheard…

Once we were strolling (stealthily, of course) through the misty streets, she revealed an additional adventure she’d been through in the catacombs below that temple…an adventure involving misty passageways, chilling winds and blood-red lipgloss…

Magcarryn crept through the misty passageways of the forgotten catacomb… suddenly she glanced to her left, and spotted a more vampy, gory treasure – Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Raisin Rage…

Yes indeed! Magcarryn’s adventures with Revlon’s recently-revamped lipgloss line were not over yet! Speaking of vamps, the gloss she still wanted to tell us about (in whispers) is Raisin Rage, the sparkle free, deoxygenated-blood-red member of the group.

Despite the slightly zany name, Raisin Rage is a properly bloody, vampy burgundy gloss. You can apply it thickly for that ‘just feasted on the blood of the innocent’ look, or sheerly for a gorgeously understated hint-of-vampiric-seductress look. At either thickness, it’s non-sticky, doesn’t travel, and lasts about as long as its sparklier cousins: that is, three to four hours.

Gory totems loomed around every corner of the catacomb…the ancients who buried their dead here clearly revered doe-foot applicators…

The gloss is, for all intents and purposes, unscented and flavourless. There is a slight, sweet scent, that reminds me a bit of my old Lancôme Juicy Tube in (ha ha) Raisin. I could be imagining this, but either way, there’s nothing to disrupt your senses (or those bloodhound-like minotaurs) here.

The packaging is eminently functional – the flocked doe foot applicator does what it’s supposed to do, and the tube is sturdy and won’t leak in your kitbag. Unless you beat orcs to death with it, but I doubt that’s covered under Revlon’s customer/warranty stuff. Don’t blame me, though, if the paladin and/or cleric start looking askance at you when they see what looks like a vial full of blood in your bag. Honestly, those guys…

The gloss is neither hydrating nor drying, really, although if I were forced at drider-point to choose I’d say it’s slightly hydrating. Either that or it keeps the moisture in – a good thing whichever way you look at it. It does get a little tacky towards the end of wear, but this doesn’t generally bother me, as by that point you’re looking to put more on anyway which will slick things back up!

A lip swatch was requested, and after much trial and error with the camera, here it is! This is the gloss applied sheerly (the way I like to wear it normally). It’s worth noting that my normal lips have almost zero pigment, so this gloss is actually working quite hard!

 

Revlon Raisin Rage on the human lip! My natural lip pigment is pretty minimal, so what you see here is what you get from a sheer layer of this gloss.

The verdict: Like it’s sparkly friends, this gloss is versatile, comfortable, buildable and relatively long wearing. Very much worth checking out if you’re looking for an affordable way to try different kinds of burgundy looks, or feeling like you need to vamp it up a bit!
