Quest for the Emerald Empire: the Search for a Perfect Green

Greetings from the deck of an astral warship, my fellow rogues!

I spent quite a bit of time this weekend with a new group of adventurers, sailing the astral seas in search of glittering green glory! What can I say, my rogueish expertise is much sought after, and I was invited along on the expedition to provide my matchless trap-disarming, treasure sensing, lock picking and witticism delivering skills.

DnD adventuring party

The Adventuring Party, ready to go. Why is there *always* someone making a strange hand gesture in every photo?

I enjoyed myself immensely, and since green isn’t really a colour we see much of around here (unless it’s gelatinous gube related, sadly) I thought I would share the spoils of our victory with you and profile some od the glorious green goodies. Also alliteration. 😀 Since I was guest questing, I didn’t get to keep any of the green gems themselves, so this is also a wishlist! I was rewarded with gold, XP, and that warm fuzzy feeling you get from helping out a friend 🙂

DnD dice

Crit happens. Usually when you don’t need it to, but perhaps the chances will be better with gorgeous green dice!

(Just like with my January Wishlist, all the photos were taken from the manufacturers/creators/distributors websites, which are linked if you click on the title of the paragraph about a given item. Just to be clear, none of these links are affiliate!)

On with the glorious green!

I. Lips

Green lipstick

Emerald enhancement for the lips. Pigments are featured because I am now obsessed with the idea of making my own lipstick.

1. Illamasqua Lipstick in Apocalips

This rogue went green with envy when the party pulled this out of the astral sea – I’ve been lusting after this lipstick for quite some time now (along with a whole pile of things from the Illamasqua line)!

2. Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Violate

Unsettling name, fabulous lipgloss. I just want to wear Apocalips with this over the top for ALL THE GREEN.

3. M.A.C Pigment in Emerald Green

I’ve recently become a bit obsessed with the idea of making my own lipstick out of pigments/ eyeshadows and lip balm (thanks to Melissa’s genius in our recent collaboration!), so I’ve included a couple of M.A.C. pigments here that I think might be intriguing to work with. If you can’t access M.A.C., there are many things growing in dungeons that you can  probably try grinding up, but your mileage may vary in terms of unwanted side effects like curses and/or face-melting.

4. M.A.C Pigment in Teal

Ditto the above, but for a more blue-based green option. I know perfectly well that teal is its own colour, but I usually see it more as a green than a blue.

II. Nails

Emerald Green nail polishes

Glorious green for tips! Honestly, there were about 549678 polishes I could have included here, so I decided to stick with one brand, since Butter London had so many good, permanent green shades!

5. Butter London British Racing Green

British Racing Green has always been a favourite cart colour of mine – I know I’ll try to get something that line if we’re hiring one to take us and our loot back to town. The paladin prefers bright red with racing stripes, but he’s having a bit of a mid-life crisis at the moment…

6. Butter London Henley Regatta

No post is truly complete without some outright glitter in it somewhere.

7. Butter London Jack the Lad

I love the multidimensional colour in this green. It reminds me of some of the more complex gems we’ve brought back out of various dungeons and hoards over the years, and a couple of particularly lovely giant geodes that we had to climb our way through. Ah, good times…

III. Eyes

Green eyeshadows

Glittering green for eyes! Once again, there are many lovely green eyeshadows and pigments out there. I decided to stick with a brand I already love (UD) and one I’m keen to try (Sugarpill). Fyrinnae, your website was broken when I was putting this together, so you missed out :-/

8. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Junkie

These eye pencils are fantastic. This colour is a particularl lovely one. I almost managed to slip this into a pocket, but my conscience overcame my greed. Being a rogue is tough, you know? 😉

9. Sugarpill Loose Eyeshadow in Junebug

I’m really interested in trying Sugarpill stuff at some point, and this loose shadow is on the list! Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any in the adventure postings at the moment (i.e. it’s sold out), but I’m sure someone will locate a new dungeon with some in soon!

10. Sugarpill Pressed Eyeshadow in Subterranean

How ridiculously appropriate is the name of this eyeshadow? And how gorgeous is the colour?

11. Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencil in Clinic

Every time I see a swatch of this, my face twitches and my fingers itch to get it IMMEDIATELY. I was thrilled to see it pop up on this adventure, and hopefully I’ll get the chance to go after a gorgeous stick-shaped emerald of this for my own, soon!

12. Urban Decay Pressed Eyeshadow in Loaded

I love Urban Decay eyeshadows, This is not really a secret (I can *hear* the Bard rolling her eyes right now). However, I do not yet posess this lovely deep green. It came to us, actually – washed right onboard during a rough moment in the journey, matching the colour of the ranger’s face at that moment perfectly!

13. One Last Thing… The astral sea is a beautiful sight, adventurers! Illamasqua’s nail polish in Perseid captures it perfectly 🙂

Illamasqua Perseid

A nail polish that manages to perfectly capture the astral sea on a calm day. I just want to dive right in!

Right! Now that you’ve seen the spoils of our astral-seafaring adventures in the Emerald Empire, do you feel like wearing green? Have you tried any of these products (or sailed the astral seas)?

Until next time, fellow adventurers, don’t forget to check for traps!

  1. You should actually totally sign up for ShopSense (pay-per-click) or rStyle (sales commission) because you’re linking to these products anyway–why not make a little money off of it? (Although I’m not sure if it’s more complicated when you don’t live in the US, hmm.) You of all people are not in danger of becoming a marketing drone–you’re too watchful in the tunnels for that to happen, I think–and no one who’s not an utter snob will think less of you.

That said, “The paladin prefers bright red with racing stripes, but he’s having a bit of a mid-life crisis at the moment…” I TOTALLY DIDN’T SNORT BECAUSE I AM GRACEFUL AT ALL TIMES

    • Poor Hilarion. I shouldn’t tease him, really. 😉

I have considered an affiliate program before, but I read somewhere that you can’t do them with WordPress.com or something (you need to have your own domain and be with WordPress.org). I should probably investigate further…

I’m not sure it’s worth it for how much I might actually make – I’m totally clueless when it comes to the whole monetisation thing! All I know is that I want to avoid those AdSense type ads like the plague. There will never be a ‘Cut 5000 kg of belly fat in 30 seconds with this one weird tip’ ad on this site!

      • Syl,
I can help you if you like. Google is pretty controllable. They are a bit crappy about turning their service on and off for people without saying why. You can make decent money. As for affiliates, not too tough. You just don’t worry about it if your site is more for fun and you make whatever. WP.com is very very picky about this sort of thing. They want you to have traffic before you monetize. Having your own set up (I do) isn’t too hard it’s not free though. I wanted my own so WP couldn’t tell me what to do. I have no idea how much traffic. They don’t say anywhere what they consider when you’re monetizing. Just that you have traffic and are adding value to the internet. But it’s their call on whether they allow it or shut you down. Thus why I went with my own set up. I’ll email you a few more details.

  2. I’ve been thinking about getting UD Mainline. I’m not sure that qualifies as green. With green eyes, I usually find green looks like a goblin sneezed on my eyelids. BTW We need to find some good dark lippies for Kiss & Makeup 🙂

    • OMG totally! *plot, scheme*

I’ve been trying to think of some ‘gateway lipsticks’ to get her hooked! Poor Melissa 😉

My eyes are a strange colour – sometimes grey, sometimes blue, sometimes one is green and one is blue. I’ve kind of given up trying to find the best colour liners for my eye colour, and just go for whatever I feel like! It’s liberating, but probably results in some strange looks sometimes…

  3. Now I am scratching my head to find the link (btw the link is not likely located on my scalp), but I ran across a tutorial for Create Your Own Lipstick out of Crayons. I was highly skeptical. Highly. But it looked worth testing and trying – if only for the allure of 64 shades of lipstick in a box.

    • I, too, appreciate the allure of so many radical colours of lipstick! I do have to wonder how many of the brighter pigments are registered as safe for cosmetic use, however. I mean, they’re ‘non-toxic’ crayons, I assume, so they shouldn’t be too harmful, but that doesn’t stop them being ‘irritant’…

  4. British Racing Green! I love that polish! Though I will concede that it doesn’t go with as much as I’d like. Good color for someone in my job, though. Camo and whatnot. Also I have been eyeing Clinic for some time. BUT.

Since we’re on a greeeen theme, I do love Chanel’s Stylo Yeux in Jade, and if I’m feeling a wee bit frosted, I sometimes still dig out my Perles de Chanel with that icy pale green. That palette is getting geriatric, though. Sadface. Oh! Zoya fleck effect top coat in Opal. It looks 100 kinds of awesome over black or British racing green. In my top 3 nail looks comment-wise. People loved it! It must have been the whole wicked witch of the woods thang. 😀

    • Ooh, good tips! Sometimes I think it would be cool to do a post on some ‘vintage by my lifetime’ makeup…

Zoya had a bunch of potential for this post actually. Almost too much, really!

  6. There’s something so fresh and unique about green eyeshadows coupled with a green eye liner. I once did my eyes using The Body Shop’s Green Shimmer Cubes and I got plenty of compliments because of it. 🙂
