A Rogue Gets Her Just Desserts…with Nyx Butter Glosses in Strawberry Parfait and Cherry Pie

Greetings from Underdark, my fellow rogues!

I’m sure I speak for more than myself when I say that desserts are great. You come home after a long quest, tuck into a great feast, and round it all off with a delicious bowl of sweet stuff. Wouldn’t it be great if you could have that with you all the time? Even while you’re hacking at an ettin’s argumentative shins?

Well, wonder no longer. Below, you’ll see that Anne has brought you two marvels of portable dessert! (Anne, by the way, was a rogue herself, until she forgot to check for traps while marrying Henry…)

Thanks to Nyx, we’re one step in the right direction. Their range of Butter Glosses (which I believe comprises 12 or so shades) not only have ‘butter’ in the title and names like Strawberry Parfait and Cherry Pie, they also smell like caramel vanilla cupcakes! I say ‘one’ step in the right direction because they have no separate flavour that I can detect – we’re not talking Lancome Juicy Tubes here. This might actually be preferable for those who don’t like flavoured lip products, but I feel an opportunity was lost…

Cherry Pie is a classic red with a pinkish undertone, while Strawberry Parfait is a soft, cool medium pink. The colours are great everyday shades, that can be worn semi-opaque or sheer depending on how you like your intensity and how you like your lips to feel. On that subject, these must be the most comfortable glosses I think I’ve ever worn. They’re not sticky, they’re not goopy, they’re not tacky when they dry…they’re just smooth and soft and nicely ‘thin-coating’ on the lips. Usually I feel a bit of dryness around the edges of a gloss, but these are perfectly cloaking and hydrating. They’re just so effortless and comfortable, like your favourite pair of leggings/daggers/pauldrons. etc.

Wear time is average for me, clocking in at about two to three hours. This is enough time to get down into a medium sized dungeon and clear it out, but possibly not quite long enough to get back out again. Fortunately, the size and packaging of these glosses make them perfect for popping in your kitbelt for re-application between goblin strikes. The doe foot applicator is totally functional, and you don’t get too much or too little out at once.

These sweet glosses also won’t drain your gold purse too badly – at EUR 6.99 each (I got mine at a Douglas in Germany, as Nyx is not readily available here in Middle Earth), they’re a very sound and affordable investment. It’s not often you come across a gloss of this quality for that price (that isn’t being guarded by a lich or something equally irksome). I’m looking forward to trying more of these, and some other Nyx lip products at some point – anyone else a fan?

The verdict: Hands down the most comfortable, delicious smelling glosses I’ve worn in a long time. With a good selection of pretty, wearable shades (which can be quite dramatic if applied opaquely), these Nyx Butter Glosses are worthy of your gold. Feast away!

The practicalities: Nyx Butter Glosses in Strawberry Parfait (BLG01) and Cherry Pie (BLG12) cost EUR 6.99/USD 5.00 each for 8 mL/0.27 fl. oz, are permanent, and may be acquired from Douglas in Germany, www.nyxcosmetics.com and a whole host of places in the US (I assume! Feel free to suggest some!). A nice bonus is that purchases made on the Nyx website are eligible for free returns. They also offer international shipping through one of those things that gives you a US address – you can sign up here. In New Zealand, you could also try using YouShop.

Until next time, fellow adventurers, don’t forget to check for traps! Also goblins.

  1. Oooh, so pretty! I’m very picky about lip gloss–it’s usually so uncomfortable–so I might check these out. Of course, by “might” I mean “want to but can’t bring myself to spend the money”, haha xD

    • I am SUPER PICKY about gloss too. I tend to find it’s done either really well or really badly…

That’s why we read each others’ blogs – so you can pine after my lipglosses and I can lust after your awesome clothes :-P

      • Well, a rogue has to preserve her anonymity ;-). I’ve been thinking of doing lip swatches of all the lipsticks I post, but maybe kind of in 3/4 profile with the rest of my face covered with a rogue’s black hood. Not sure how useful that would be…also I don’t have the hood ;-)

I have some ballet gear/outfit posts planned, which is sort of funny when you think about it – I’m hiding my face but considering displaying my thighs/ass in pink tights in a leotard… :-D

      • I don’t know about useful, but it would definitely be amusing, in an adding-to-the-atmosphere kinda way :)

Hopefully no one is intimately enough familiar with your thighs/etc to be able to track you to your lair. . .

    • Yeah, I’d read quite a few mixed reviews of various Nyx products, but these seemed to consistently come out on top! Then I was walking past a Douglas in Germany and saw the logo one day…and the rest is history!

Thanks! :-) I felt like my blog needed some jazzing up, so I hurtled through the ‘widget’ section, clicking on things and having a high old time!

  2. Ahh! I love your gamery nerdishness! Nice review on the butter glosses btw, I think the scent is a little too strong for me though. :o Regardless, they are gorgeous.

Lip swatches with a rogue hood is a great idea! Maybe you could fashion a partial mask as well to further conceal your identity?

    • Ooh, good idea on the mask! I’m seriously going to have to investigate the possibilities – I really like blogs that have lip swatches myself, so I only feel like I’m doing 2/3 of the job without them :-P

As for the scent – I should probably have mentioned that it kind of gets a free pass on strength because I have an unhealthy fondness for vanilla caramel. In general, I’m not really a fan of strong scents lip products – Nyx and Lancome are the only two brands I’ve really liked in the way of scented gloss!

  3. Hey, I’m from Middle Earth as well! ;) Have you tried using YouShop? I’m a bit too paranoid to try it out and nobody I know has actually tried using it. NYX is Global Eligible on Amazon.com, though, so that’s how I get a hold of my NYX products :)

    • Yep, I’ve used YouShop a few times to get stuff from Urban Decay – it’s very reliable, but the one catch is that the place you order it from has to allow your billing address to be outside the US! Nyx offers a similar service to YouShop (like Urban Decay) so I would guess that it’ll work!

The only other thing is that you have to watch the size/weight of the stuff you buy, or the shipping can add up. If you can, order from places that have (at least) free shipping within the US or UK, so you only pay for the shipping to NZ. :-)

Thanks for the tip about Amazon!
